One Strange Rock Season 2 Renewed on National Geographic

One Strange Rock Season 2 Updates: The American nature documentary series ‘One Strange Rock’ has now been renewed for a second season and will be presented by National Geographic and Darren Aronofsky together.

The series will continue its exploration of Earth and places which makes it a peculiar place in the entire Earth. It depicts the different shades of life on Earth and how life survives and thrives on the blue planet.

The previous season of the TV series was aired on National Geographic and is hosted by actor Will Smith. The series also includes the pivotal contributions from astronauts Chris Hadfield, Nicole Stott, Jeffrey A. Hoffman, Mae Jemison, Leland Melvin, Mike Massimino, Jerry Linenger, and Peggy Whitson.

One Strange Rock Season 2 Release Date

The 10 x 60′ first season started on March 26, 2018, and ended on May 28, 2018. Later it was available for streaming on Netflix from November 1, 2019 but later shifted to Disney+Hotstar on January 2020.

The series was announced for renewal on July 25, 2018 by National Geographic. However, there is no clarity about the arrival of the new season as of October 2020. The season 1 was a hit as it became channel’s fourth-most-watched series globally with 81 million viewership.

Darren Aronofsky serves as the executive producer of the show along with Jane Root, Arif Nurmohamed, Peter Lovering.

Courteney Monroe, CEO of National Geographic Global Networks stated: “The tremendous success of One Strange Rock is a testament to the power of innovative storytelling and an exceptional creative team.”

He continued saying, “With the creative vision of Darren Aronofsky and the expertise of Jane Root and Nutopia, One Strange Rock stretches the traditional boundaries of science and natural history programming. It takes viewers on a breathtaking visual adventure that not only entertains, but also amazes and surprises.”

When asked, Aronotsky also said:  “With National Geographic and the wealth of talent and experience of Jane and Nutopia, we took on this ambitious project to give audiences a new perspective on our living planet.

There was so much more we wanted to cover in the first season and couldn’t. I’m grateful we now have the opportunity to bring more of the beauty and wonder of our planet to the screen.”

Though the principal filming for the season 2 was scheduled to start in February 2019 but till now no development has been seen and there is no clarity about the possibilities of season 2 happening.
