Emma Corrin Didn’t Know Anything About Marvel Before Joining Deadpool 3

Actress Emma Corrin needed a quick overview of the MCU to play a villain in the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool 3.
Emma Corrin, the villain in Deadpool 3, has acknowledged not being a Marvel fan and finding the Marvel Cinematic Universe befuddling. The Crown actor revealed he only saw two Marvel flicks before earning the role in the highly anticipated upcoming picture starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
With so many films, TV shows, and multiple timelines to keep track of, keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a full-time job. It’s hardly surprising, however, that when Emma Corrin agreed to play a villain in the third Deadpool film, they made it plain that they would require a crash course before entering the MCU.
Despite the excitement around the idea, Corrin stated that Marvel was notoriously tight-lipped and did not give any specifics about the film during their initial meeting. Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy approached Corrin for the role after seeing their performance in a stage production of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, but in typical Marvel fashion, offered very few details about the film, which confuses her because multiple timelines and movies have already been released, and then there are comics.
Details of Emma Corrin’s character are being kept under wraps for now, but it has been announced that she will appear alongside actors Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman, who is reprising his role as Wolverine. When commencing a new role, actors go through a study process and adapt the character, working with the directors to construct the history for the character and deciding how they’ll portray the part. There was an extra level for Corrin because they weren’t versed in Marvel lore, to begin with. Emma Corrin stated to EMPIRE:
“Hands up, I’m not a Marvel person. I’ve watched ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Black Panther.’ I was like, ‘Look, you’re gonna have to debrief me into this.’ It’s such an intricate world. There’s so much to it; it’s an absolute mind-f***. All the language and the Easter eggs, and this person is related to that person who did this, and this person came back, and this person’s dead.it’s amazing. I understand why it means as much as it does to so many people. It’s a phenomenon, and I feel really lucky to be part of it. Especially ‘Deadpool,’ because I love the fact that it’s self-aware and critical of its own inner workings.”
Emma’s next television project will be the murder mystery A Murder At The End Of The World, which will premiere on Disney+ in November. The series, co-created by The OA’s Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, stars Emma as a Gen-Z investigator.
