When Is Wonka Musical Fantasy Movie Releasing?

Paul King has directed the upcoming musical fantasy movie ‘Wonka’ which will act as a prequel to the 1964 novel of Roald Dahl- ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘ as well its 1971 adaptation ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’.

The plot follows the eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka at a young age as he steps towards opening the most famous chocolate factory in the world through many adventures.

When Is ‘Wonka’ Releasing?

Development of Wonka began following Warner Bros. Pictures acquiring the rights to the titular character in October 2016. Shortlisted casting for the role of Wonka included Ezra Miller, Ryan Gosling, and Donald Glover.

Chalamet was cast in the role in May of 2021. Filming began in September 2021. The movie is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 15, 2023.

Timothée Chalamet-

As the titular character Willy Wonka at a young age, we will find Academy Award-nominated popular actor Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming movie.

After Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, Chalamet is the third actor to portray Wonka in a feature film. Although both the other actors played the period of Willy Wonka’s life when he arranged a contest for children in which Charlie Bucket participates, as portrayed in the original novel.

Chalamet was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actor in 2018 for his role of Elio in ‘Call Me by Your Name‘. His other film credits include ‘The King‘, ‘Beautiful Boy‘, ‘Little Women‘, ‘Lady Bird’, ‘Don’t Look Up’, ‘Bones and All’, ‘Dune’.

Keegan-Michael Key-

Olivia Colman-

English actress Olivia Colman is another cast member of the upcoming movie. In 2019 she won Academy Award for Best Actress for playing Queen Anne in the black comedy movie ‘The Favourite’.

She won two other Academy Award nominations respectively as Best Supporting Actress for playing Anne in the 2020 psychological drama movie ‘The Father and Best Actress for playing Leda Caruso in the 2021 psychological drama film ‘The Lost Daughter‘.
