IU’s Agency to Take Legal Action Against Spiteful Comments

Lee Ji Eun, famously known as IU is a South Korean actress, record producer, and singer-songwriter. She made her debut as a singer with her first extended play “Lost and Found” in 2008 at the age of fifteen.

IU is known as her nation’s “Little sister.” She is famous for her kind gestures and loving heart but recently some netizens had written malicious comments about her. If a person is loved by a large number of people, there will always be someone who might try to bring disgrace to their image.

A similar thing is happening with IU. Some people are writing malicious comments against the singer but her agency, EDAM Entertainment has taken legal action against the person.

The netizen who was found guilty of writing bad comments and spreading false rumors against the actress has been caught along with evidence and as a result, EDAM Entertainment has taken legal action against the culprit.

IU’s Agency Released A Statement Regarding the Legal Action Against Spiteful Comments.

They have also released an official statement in relation to the matter which is as follows:

“Hello. This is EDAM Entertainment.

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the fans who consistently offer IU, Shin Se Kyung, and WOODZ of EDAM Entertainment their love and support.

As we have previously said in several notices, we often take legal action against authors of malicious posts, such as personal attacks, insults, defamation, malicious slander, circulation of false information, and breach of privacy.

To avoid any further harm, we are gathering and supplementing evidence of harmful posts, including from prior cases. We are also conducting self-monitoring and collaborating with a law firm to develop comprehensive countermeasures to defend rights and interests.

Since last year, we have gathered evidence of the offenders who frequently posted destructive messages, such as blatantly false information, slander, and personal assaults on IU on several anonymous groups, including DC Inside, and have filed a case through the law firm Shinwon.

We gathered all of those posts and provided further information to the investigating agency because during this process the offender insulted and behaved maliciously in the same manner repeatedly.

The offender acknowledged all criminal accusations after the investigation, and as a result, they were fined 3 million won ($2,300) for breaking the law on promoting the use of information and communications networks and information protection (defamation and insult). We will maintain a zero-tolerance approach and pursue the harshest judicial remedies if the same crime recurs after this decision.

We are continuing to pursue legal action even if it is challenging to divulge the precise procedure and development as per the request of the investigating agency.

The information and feedback from fans are very useful for identifying malicious posts. EDAM Entertainment will commit to trying our best till the day the nasty comments are erased, even though we cannot dare to fathom the feelings of the fans who see that indiscriminate criticism and vicious comments toward loved ones.
