This is a period drama about the 16th-century Queen of France. The plot revolves around Catherine de Medici, who while an orphaned teenager, was married into the French court to bring along fortune and an heir.
But her life turns upside down when she finds out that she is not able to conceive children and also that her husband has a relationship with an older woman. Samantha Morton portrayed Catherine de Medici in the series.

This is a historical drama series that serves as a sequel to the popular series ‘Vikings of History. The plot chronicles how the legendary Viking Age began to come to an end through the 1066 Battle of Stanford Bridge.
Vikings: Valhalla premiered on February 25, 2022, on Netflix. A second season has been renewed on March 9 this year.
Bridgerton (Season 2)- Number of Seasons: 2
This popular historical romance series is adapted from Julia Quinn’s book series. The plot is set in London in the Regency era and surrounds the Bridgerton siblings as they navigate love, friendship, rivalry, and nobility.
The first season focused on the fourth Bridgerton child Daphne and her love interest Simon Basset and premiered on December 25, 2020, on Netflix.
Bridgerton Season 2 arrived on March 25, 2022, with the eldest Bridgerton child and his love interest Kate as the lead character. Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley portrayed Anthony and Kate respectively.
Becoming Elizabeth- Number of Seasons: 1
The plot of this historical drama series revolves around Queen Elizabeth I of the United Kingdom and focuses on her early life as an orphaned teenager getting embroiled in royal and sexual politics of the English court and how she ascended to the crown after King Henry VIII left the throne with no clear heir.
Alicia von Rittberg portrayed Elizabeth Tudor in the series. Becoming Elizabeth ran from June 12 to August 7 of 2022.

This is a historical drama series that is set in the Gilded Age that the booking years of 1880s New York City. The plot revolves around a rural girl named Marian Brook who after her father dies, moves to New York.
But things alter for her as she finds herself involved in a clan of railroad tycoons. Carrie Coon portrayed the lead character in the series that premiered on January 24, 2022, on HBO.
Boundless- Number of Seasons: 1
This is a Spanish historical and adventure miniseries that is a fictionalized take on the First Circumnavigation of the World and revolves around Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano, one of whom started and the other completed the voyages set from Spain.
Rodrigo Santoro and Álvaro Morte portrayed Magellan and Elcano respectively in the series that premiered on June 10, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video.
Under the Queen’s Umbrella- Number of Seasons: 1
The plot of this South Korean tv series is set in the fictional Joseon dynasty and revolves around a queen’s effort to shape the troublemaker princes into the perfect future king of the dynasty while struggling to keep her competitors lust for the throne at bay.
Under the Queen’s Umbrella ran from October 15 to December 4 of 2022.
The Essex Serpent- Number of Seasons: 1
This gothic historical drama series is adapted from Sarah Perry’s same-named 2016 novel. The plot revolves around a recently widowed woman named Cora who moves to a small village of Essex from Victorian London and becomes interested in the local superstition regarding a mystical creature- the titular Essex Serpent.
Claire Danes portrayed Cora Seaborne in the series. The Essex Serpent ran from May 13 to June 10 of 2022 on Apple TV+.
Marie Antoinette- Number of Seasons: 1
This is an upcoming French British historical drama series that centers around the last queen of France Marie Antoinette. The series will provide a different take on who is usually considered a selfish and superficial woman and will delve into her modern and progressive life that paved the way for many opportunities that modern women get.
Emilia Schüle will be seen portraying Marie Antoinette in the series. On the French network, Marie Antoinette premiered in October, and in the UK it will be released on December 29, 2022.
