David Gordon Green has directed the upcoming American supernatural horror movie ‘The Exorcist: Believer’. The plot is adapted from a story by Danny McBride, Scott Teems, and David Gordon Green and the characters of William Peter Blatty.

The movie serves as the direct sequel to the 1973 movie ‘The Exorcist’ and the sixth installment of The Exorcist franchise.

The plot revolves around the parents of girls who have been possessed by demons and are desperate for help. They go in search of someone who went through similar experiences and that is Chris MacNeil from ‘The Exorcist’.

When Is The Exorcist: Believer Releasing?

The Exorcist: Believer reported in August of 2020 that Morgan Creek Entertainment would produce the new installment of The Exorcist franchise which will also serve as a reboot.

Principal photography kicked off in November of 2022 and filming wrapped early in March of 2023.

Universal Pictures released the official trailer of the movie on YouTube on 25th July 2023. The film is scheduled to be released on October 13, 2023, by Universal Pictures.

The plot takes us four years after where the first film ended. The new film also features Sister Irene finding herself face to face once again with Valak, the demonic force known as the Nun- this time at a boarding school in France.

When Will ‘The Nun’ be Released in Theatre?

‘The Nun’ was released in the United States on September 7, 2018. Both films are based on characters written by Gary Dauberman and James Wan, the latter being one of the producers of the upcoming film.

It was first hinted by Wan in August of 2017, even before the release of ‘The Nun’ as he stated that he already knew at that time about the plot of a sequel film that would potentially complete the circle tying it back to the story of Lorraine set up with the first two Conjurings.

Peter Safran, the other producer of the upcoming movie, announced in April 2019 that the sequel is in fact in development. Both Wan and Safran were producers of the first film too. Akela Cooper joined the project as a screenwriter later that month.

‘The Nun 2’ was officially announced by Warner Bros. Pictures in April of 2022. Right after the day of this announcement Michael Chaves was announced to be directing the film.

The same month Wan confirmed that the role of Valak Soul is reprised by Bonnie Aarons from the first movie. Storm Reid was cast as a new main character in September of that year.
