What Is the Movie May December About?

May December
Netflix

The film takes us on the journey of an actress, Elizabeth Berry (portrayed by Natalie Portman), whilst Gracie Atherton-Yoo (portrayed by Julianne Moore) is a Georgia woman with a notorious past involving a s*xual relationship with a minor, Joe.

Twenty years later, Elizabeth visits Gracie and now a 36-year-old Joe to prepare for her role – exposing the loopholes beneath the latter’s carefully constructed surface.

At first glance, the pair’s untraditional marriage looks believing and predictable – just like a mundane marriage should be like and certainly more than Elizabeth expected but her keen eye-for-detail observation skills bring dormant feelings to the surface and the notorious age-old scandal reveals a much deeper interior layer.

That certainly does commandeer some interest does it not? Well, keep your fingers crossed because this will be one hell of a ride between two of the most famous actresses in Hollywood!

Both leading actresses have been long-time favorites of the Globes and Portman is especially renowned for ‘Black Swan’ (2010).

Who Is the Cast of May December?

May December
Netflix

As you know, Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman will be the leading cast members of the movie with the former portraying Gracie Atherton-Yoo who previously was engaged in an illegal and illicit love affair with a boy several years younger than her (he was 13 at that time) – and ironically, that same man turns out to be her husband today who is played by Charles Melton.

Natalie Portman plays the role of Elizabeth, a television star who is supposed to play Gracie’s part – but when she looks for inspiration from the woman herself, she ends up delving much deeper into the superficial perfection façade Gracie has managed to create.

May December is all set to be released on Netflix on 1st December 2023.
