Dr. Brooke Taylor, the observant, empathetic therapist at the center of the series, is played by Uzo Aduba. Uzo replaces Gabriel Byrne who played Dr. Paul Weston for three years. The show will start streaming on HBO from May 23.

Eladio, a patient who serves as a home health aide for an affluent family, is played by Ramos. Rita, Brooke’s good friend, is played by Colon-Zayas. Colin, a loaded white-collar criminal recently released from jail, is played by Hickey, and Laila, Brooke’s jaded and rebellious teen patient, is played by Swindell.

A large portion of the season is expected to be devoted not only to Brooke’s patient but also to her personal life. The original season was set in New York but the new season is set in Los Angeles.

During a Warner Media event this past winter, Azuba said that it is one of the toughest jobs to do in her life, adding that it took a lot of preparation to play Brooke.

Aduba added that she couldn’t say the statement without mentioning that it was one of the rewarding and fulfilling experiences that she had. This project came into her life at exactly the right time and provided her with a lot of enthusiasm and energy.

Anyone who has followed Aduba’s career is aware of her intimate relationship with her mother. When the actor received her first major award, Nonyem was by her side, radiant in blue and beaming with pride.

When Aduba won for her role as a pioneering politician Shirley Chisholm in the FX series, Mrs. America, she was somewhere nearby off-screen at the virtual Emmys ceremony in September.

Under the pressure of the pandemic, they shot 24 episodes in about two days each. COVID-19 appears in the show in a few ways—one patient has been released from jail due to the virus, and another encounters Brooke via a video platform.

The show is based on an Israeli series ‘ BeTipul’ which was produced by Hagai Levi, Ori Sivan, and Nir Bergman. For her role as Shirley Chisholm in Mrs. America, Aduba received a Prime Time Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a limited series or movie last year.
