In this episode, Egwene is locked in a cell, and she realizes that a collar around her neck is making her own magical powers hurt her instead of her captors. Even though they try to make her give up and accept her new life, Egwene is determined not to give in.
Meanwhile, Rand meets a woman named Lanfear, who tells him she’s been protecting him from a guy named Ishamael.
She admits that she turned evil because she loved the hero Rand, and now Ishamael is after all of Rand’s friends. She agrees to help Rand find Ishamael, but only if Rand leaves his friend Moiraine.
Mat and Min arrive at a place called Cairhien, and Ishamael knows about Min’s visions of Mat. In another location, Nynaeve and Elayne try to convince some powerful women called the Yellow Ajah that one of their own, Liandrin, is working for the bad guys.
The Ajah agrees to help rescue Egwene, who is in trouble, but they have to figure out how to unlock her collar.

At the end of this episode, Egwene is trapped and forced to wear a collar that stops her from using her powers to fight back. She can’t even touch things she might use as weapons without feeling intense pain.
Her captors try all sorts of tricks to break her spirit, like showing her the benefits of becoming a Damane, beating her, and starving her.
But Egwene refuses to give in, even though she eventually manages to pour water from a flask, showing a crack in her resistance. However, her friends are working on a plan to save her.
Nynaeve and Elayne try to remove the collar with the help of the Yellow Ajah, but things go wrong, and the Ajah sacrifices herself to protect them.
