Following on from Godzilla (2014), the story follows two siblings as they investigate a family mystery involving the Monarch organization, which leads them to Army officer Lee Shaw.

Shaw is played by Kurt Russell, while his son Wyatt Russell is in the past, as the story follows the beginnings of Monarch’s origins and the consequences of events a half-century later.

One of the most noteworthy revelations in this new teaser is that John Goodman will reprise his role from 2017’s Kong: Skull Island.

While the huge ape King Kong returned to the MonsterVerse in the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong, this is the first time any of the human characters have returned to the franchise.

Bill Randa, a top Monarch officer who died amid the film’s events, appears to have left behind a tape revealing important Monarch secrets.

The trailer also exposes further linkages to the MonsterVerse timeframe. A view of a wrecked San Francisco in a more recent timeline reveals that it takes place in the aftermath of Godzilla’s first killing spree on the American mainland in 2014, during which he fought the latest monsters, MUTOs.

It’s still being determined whether the program will follow up on the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019.

So yes, most of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ story has remained a mystery. This latest teaser, on the other hand, provides a closer look at the show’s ensemble of characters and indications as to which timeline they each live in.

It also depicts aspects of a post-kaiju society, such as a Godzilla escape route planned in a civilian area.

This much-anticipated ten-episode show will debut worldwide on Friday, November 17, according to Apple TV+.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, based on Legendary’s Monsterverse and starring Kurt Russell, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons,  Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski, will debut with two episodes, followed by a weekly release schedule, with one episode premiering every Friday until January 12.

While there are some recognizable faces, like Bill Randa from Kong: Skull Island, Legacy of Monsters aims to show fans an altogether new side of the MonsterVerse.

It should, however, contain the same high-budget spectacular effects and dramatic monster devastation that fans have come to anticipate.
