I Am Groot is the fourth installment in the continuing fifth phase of the MCU’s storyline. Still, it occurs immediately after the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finale, when Groot is only a young sapling.

The ending of I Am Groot Season 2 implies Groot is the chosen one.
The last episode begins with Watcher, the 5th-dimensional cosmic overseer, presenting a vast prophecy about the fate of the cosmos.
The previous seed of Drez-Lar lurks inside a trap-filled old temple, and only the most deserving champion will be able to acquire it, ushering in a new age for the cosmos.
Baby Groot arrives at the spot in a completely carefree and calm manner and activates all traps at once, much to the surprise of the Watcher. The Watcher keeps advising him on how to obtain the seed, but Groot ignores his advice.
Groot eventually reaches for the seed even though he is obsessed with collecting his playing ball. The seed is destroyed, causing the temple to collapse, and even the all-knowing Watcher closes his eyes in fear of Groot’s destiny within.
The Watcher, on the other hand, realizes that, just as the prophecy said, a sapling sprouted from the seed of enormous potential, which in this context turned out to be Groot growing from the ruins.
The Watcher offers his best wishes while reaffirming his trust in infant Groot, sailing away from the Earth aboard the Milano. As the story concludes, the spectator wonders how Groot can perceive a fifth-dimensional entity like him.
The latter two episodes capture the core of the Guardians’ strategy: despite their harsh, nitwit attitude to things like Groot, they have enormous potential.
Hopefully, baby Groot and his teeny-tiny cosmic adventures will continue for several seasons, making MCU universe travel far less tedious than crossover events.

Groot Is The Key To The Universe’s Survival
The Watcher realizes at the end of I Am Groot season 2 that “the small vessel of immense potential [that] would sprout” from the shrine was Groot, not the seed.
The animated series then emphasizes that, as the subject of the prophecy, it is Groot’s responsibility to bring happiness and peace throughout the universe. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we see Baby Groot dancing at the beginning of the movie while the rest of the crew is battling.
This may seem out of place, but it’s actually perfectly in line with the character’s behavior in I Am Groot. Baby Groot’s duty is to spread joy throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his own unique and entertaining ways.
