Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa will very soon be seen in another brand-new project on Netflix. The Aquaman actor starred in the upcoming movie ‘Slumberland’, a fantasy adventure film. Francis Lawrence directed this movie.
Lawrence is mostly known for directing the Hunger Games movies except the first one. The movie is inspired by Winsor McCay’s comic strip of the early twentieth century ‘Little Nemo in Slumberland. Though the movie adaptation primarily revolves around the young daughter of the late Nemo.
Teaser and Trailer of ‘Slumberland’:
The first official teaser of ‘Slumberland’ was released on YouTube on August 24, 2022, and introduced Nema, Nemo’s daughter, and Flip, a big man with horns, long hair, and extravagant coats.
On October 6 Netflix released a trailer for the movie which hinted more clearly at the story of the film. Nema is a sad little girl going to school for the first time, though she does not look at all excited about it.
And she really really misses her father. Then the trailer shows clips of her adventure with Jason Momoa’s character Flip on her side through dreams and nightmares always wondering if these are real.
The Plot of the Movie
The plot of the 2022 movie ‘Slumberland’ will not be exactly what we found in the comic strips. Rather based on those, this film serves as a sequel to them.
The movie begins when Nemo is dead and his daughter is forced to deal with the fact that her father is not in the world she lives in. But when she discovers a secret map that leads to Slumberland and meets the eccentric outlaw named Flip, she embarks upon the dreamland in the hope of seeing her father again while escaping nightmares.

The Cast of the Movie
Renowned American actor Jason Momoa plays the character of Flip. This might be the first film in which Momoa plays the role of an always laughing, kidding, jumping man instead of his usually serious face. Besides ‘Aquaman‘ Momoa starred in the film ‘Road to Paloma’ which he directed, produced, and co-wrote.
He played the role of Robert Wolf in that movie. He made a cameo appearance as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman in the 2016 movie ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is when Momoa was introduced as Aquaman for the very first time.
In 2017 he appeared in that role as a primary cast member in the 2017 superhero movie ‘Justice League based on DC comics co-starring with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, etc.
In 2018 he acted in the action thriller movie ‘Braven’ in the role of Joe Braven and produced the film. This is also the year when the first Aquaman movie ‘Aquaman’ comes centering the character of Arthur Curry, played by Momoa. He was again seen in this role in 2021 in the director’s cuts of the 2017 ‘Justice League.
The same year he played Duncan Idaho in the epic sci-fi movie ‘Dune’ co-starring with Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, etc.
He will be seen returning in the role of Arthur Curry in the next Aquaman movie in 2023- ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’. Momoa is also set to play Dante in upcoming films Fast X’ and ‘Fast & Furious and Big Jim in ‘The Last Manhunt’.
In the first two seasons of HBO’s one of the most popular fantasy tv series to date- ‘Game of Thrones Momoa played Khal Drogo, the unbeatable leader of the wild Dothraki clan and husband of Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke. Beside that Momoa was also cast in important roles in the tv series ‘North Shore’, ‘Stargate Atlantis’, ‘The Red Road’, ‘Frontier’, ‘See’ etc.
Young actress Marlow Barkley will be seen playing the role of Nema in the film. American actor Kyle Chandler, known for starring in ‘Early Edition’, ‘What About Joan?’, ‘The Lyon’s Den, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy, have portrayed Nemo. Other cast members are Weruche Opia playing Agent Green, India de Beaufort, Chris O’Dowd, etc.
Release Date of Slumberland:
Lawrence also serves as producer for the movie along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready as other producers. The movie was first announced to be planned back in 2020 on March 3.
The production began that year only to be postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Chandler joined the cast on October 12, 2020, with Opia and Beaufort following the next year on February 18. O’Dowd and Barkley were also confirmed as cast members already.
The filming of the movie kicked off on February 18, 2021, and concluded on May 19 of that year. The movie is set to release on November 18, 2022, on Netflix.
