The Bad Guys Review

The Bad Guys
Web News Observer

The Bad Guys are a group of crooks that love their reputations and the crime sprees they commit around the major metropolis.

They live high life by being bad. While the group deals with personality conflicts and disagreements, Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), and Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) are bonded by their unique thieving abilities.

Knowing that renowned Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade) is about to receive the coveted Gold Dolphin award, the Bad Guys attempt to steal the pricey prize during the ceremony in an effort to humiliate Police Chief Misty Luggins (Alex Borstein) and the recently appointed Governor Foxington (Zazie Beetz).

When the robbery fails, Marmalade offers the thieving ragtag crew lessons on how to be good as a novel kind of rehabilitation in an effort to win their hearts and demonstrate that fundamental change is possible…no matter of the individual.

Although Wolf first ignores the problem and participates in Marmalade’s ruse, he later realizes that the positive methods do work, which puts him at odds with the other members of his team who are less interested in this specific training. Therefore, the issue still stands: Can a bad guy turn good?

The opening of “The Bad Guys” features a bank heist as a method to establish the squad and their individual abilities. Mr. Shark is a master of disguise, Mr. Shark is the brains, Mr. Snake is the safecracker, Ms. Tarantula is the tech specialist, Mr. Piranha is the brawn with a hair-trigger temper, and Mr. Wolf is the mastermind.

The police are well aware of their operations, and Chief Luggins (Alex Borstein) is outraged that she is unable to catch the crooks and is pursuing them aggressively.

Naturally, this gets me back to discussing The Bad Guys, the newest animated picture from DreamWorks Animation Studios, which will be released in 2022.

To be quite honest, I didn’t really create much buzz for this movie or anything of the kind. I used to work at a bookshop and do recall seeing the titles of these books by author Aaron Blabey, so I believe I do remember hearing that a movie was going to be made based on a famous children’s series (though I never picked them up and read them).

That pretty about sums it up. The movie trailer, which I believe I just quickly viewed, appeared to be quite basic and show the primary actors of the feature, who are all evil men, attempting to be nice.
