The Google Pixel 8 Everything You Need to Know

Published by

There’s no word on when the Google Pixel 8 will be released, although the flagship numbered phones typically generally arrive around October of their release year.

Except for the Pixel 5, which was presented on September 30, 2020 (so, practically October) and didn’t arrive until October, every Pixel model outside the A-line was introduced in October.

More precision is complex because the dates in October have shifted. Still, the Pixel 8 is anticipated to be announced in early or mid-October 2023 and then ship in mid or late-October, possibly a week following the announcement.

Although the price of the Google Pixel 8 is unknown, that of the Pixel 7 & Pixel 7 Pro indicates that Google may continue to charge the same for another calendar year.

In that situation, the Pixel 8 will cost $599, while the Pixel 8 Pro would cost $899. However, we wouldn’t be shocked if Google raised the price slightly, significantly, because the current versions undercut significant competitors like the iPhone.

We haven’t heard much about the Google Pixel 8, although there have been a few leaks. For one thing, there are claims that the Tensor 3 chipset that will power the phone is already in the works and will be manufactured by Samsung again. However, no word on how much more effective this will be than the Tensor G2 found in the Pixel 7.

We already know that the Pixel 8 will be capable of satellite communications, as is the iPhone 14. However, according to Hiroshi Lockheimer (Senior Vice President of Android), support for this will arrive with Android 14. Therefore the Pixel 8 will most likely be the first Google phone to provide it.

Finally, there’s evidence of a surprise Pixel phone in the works, which might be the Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro based on leaked specs. 9to5 Google discovered this evidence (opens in new tab) in publicly available Android Open Source Project code, pointing to a phone with a 1440 x 3120 120Hz screen, a Tensor chipset, and dimensions of 155 x 71mm.

Those screen characteristics are consistent with the existing Pro versions. Still, the proportions align with the ordinary Pixel 8, suggesting that a resolution and refresh rate improvement is in the works for the standard model.
