The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari Everything You Need to know

Published by

The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari will be aired in select cinemas on December 9, 2022, before arriving on Netflix on December 16, 2022.

Rory Kennedy and her film team practically take you to the mouth of the Volcano on White Island, New Zealand. There with the tourists who were unlucky enough to be on that island when the volcano erupted on December 9, 2019.

Unfortunately, 22 people were killed. This was due to the two tour groups’ proximity to the island. Some are practically standing at the crater’s mouth.

However, the film also highlights the beauty of New Zealand. The outstanding camera work highlights the splendor of this remote area where few people live or visit.

However, it is the survivors who recount their stories with just beautiful imagery and pure sound effects. Then there’s the drama of how they were rescued by a gang of chopper pilots and boat crews who risked their lives to save what New Zealand officials thought was unreachable. This film is captivatingly engaging.

It’s also a love story about a couple on their honeymoon who stuck together against all obstacles thanks to the power of love. Their sweet love radiates through the lens into the screen and your heart, despite being damaged for life.

Then there’s the loss of a sibling. Seeing a native mother express her sadness over losing her kid humanizes the tragedy. Perhaps the most moving was the young Australian kid who witnessed his sister, mother, and father’s prolonged death pain before rising to will himself back to the rescue area.

He is still undergoing procedures to this day. The film properly brings you to the foot of the tragedy’s force. You can’t help but be amazed as you watch.
