After the success of ‘Enola Holmes in 2020 by both the critics and the audience who welcomed the new brilliant mind to their list of favorite detectives, the year 2022 is ready to bring another Enola Holmes movie namely ‘Enola Holmes 2’.
A new trailer for the movie has been released on YouTube on October 11. Both films are adaptations of Nancy Springer’s young adult detective fiction ‘The Enola Holmes Mysteries. Since then the series consists of seven novels written between 2006 and 2021.
Who is this new Holmes?
When Harry Bradbeer brought Enola onscreen for the first time, viewers who had not read Springer’s books were taken aback by the introduction of another (seemingly) detective by the second name of Holmes.
Naturally, the world was accustomed to one Holmes only and that is the idiosyncratic and hugely unsocial Sherlock, created by British author Arthur Conan Doyle one hundred and one years before Springer gave birth to his young sister Enola.
It was a huge risk to make a film about her as the deep influence of Sherlock and his unrivaled intelligence might turn the atmosphere hostile for a young woman of the same family to have her own quality overshadowed even if it equals that of her older brother.
‘Holmes’- the name by which Watson has addressed his detective friend a million times, sometimes to express his confusion, sometimes surprise, has been adhered to a girl coming out of nowhere! Is it possible?
So, it was essentially a risk to make a mainstream film about Enola Holmes as it was for Springer, only a great deal more, when she first created the character. But if Enola came out of nowhere, so did Sherlock when she first made her appearance in Scotland yard.
Modernist English writer of the 20th century Virginia Woolf in her essay ‘A Room of One’s Own’ created a fictional sister of William Shakespeare who has the equal talent to depict how hard it would be for a woman to rise to fame and prominence than a man.
The character of Enola Holmes does the same job, though Springer’s writing and Millie Bobby Brown’s brilliant portrayal have granted Enola her own stature as an individual being.
When everyone was witnessing Sherlock, one of the most intelligent minds that the world has ever discovered, solving one after another queer and impossible-to-crack mysteries, his young sister was largely confined in a house with her mother Eudoria.
Her mother who was a pro at anagrams and taught it to her daughter too named her Enola that spells Alone from backward. But what confined Enola, in reality, is the Victorian era that was unfriendly to women and girls who wanted to be independent and were unwilling to conform to the set up social rules.
In-home her mother taught her to be an educated brave and good-at-heart young woman skilled in chess to jujutsu. She knows about her very successful detective brother but has not met him until the first story.

Millie Bobby Brown as Enola
Millie Bobby Brown gained recognition after starring as Eleven in Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things‘ as she joined the cast of the series with other child actors and actresses. This eighteen years old British actress has received a lot of critical acclamation since then.
She portrayed the titular Enola Holmes in the 2020 movie with Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade, Susie Wokoma as Edith, a British suffragist and martial artist and Louis Patridge as Tewkesbury, a boy she meets while searching for her missing mother and ends up helping him escape from a man who wants to kill him.
All of them will be seen reprising their roles in the sequel except for Claflin. New cast members like Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Thewlis, Hannah Dodd will be seen in important roles.
Brown has portrayed Enola brilliantly mixing animation and determination in her character. Peter Debruge of Variety compared her acting in the film with Keira Knightley saying that her “acting style recalls the effusive spontaneity” the latter “brought to ‘Pride and Prejudice, shattering the straitlaced propriety of so many Jane Austen adaptations before it.”

Trailer of ‘Enola Holmes 2’ and When the film will release:
‘Enola Holmes’ was initially planned by Warner Bros for theatrical release. But the pandemic made Netflix pick it up. The second film whose development was confirmed in April of 2021, will also be distributed by Netflix.
In Enola Holmes 2, Enola will be seen struggling with people taking her seriously as a professional detective and later taking the case of the mystery of a missing girl. Part one of the official trailer was released on YouTube on September 24 this year. The second part has been available on October 11.
Enola Holmes 2 will arrive on November 4, 2022, on Netflix.
