Director Hwang Dong Hyuk is reportedly being paid a huge sum for the second season of the popular drama, in addition to Lee Jung Jae, who has reportedly been signed on for an alleged guaranteed price of 1 billion KRW per episode.

The budget for the second season of the Netflix and Siren Pictures-produced series, excluding the appearance fees for Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun, is said to range somewhere around 100 billion Korean Won, or Rs. 70 million.

However, a Netflix representative stated in a report quoted by Xports News that nothing has been confirmed yet because “the script for Squid Game 2 is still in the process of being developed.”

One of the most famous South Korean survival drama television series Squid Game was developed by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix.

In addition to Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung were featured in the cast.

The show centers on a competition in which 456 participants, all of whom are experiencing extreme financial hardship, put their lives in danger by participating in a series of dangerous children’s games in an effort to win a prize of 45.6 billion ($35 million, €33 million, or £29 million as of a broadcast).

The series’ name is based on a kid’s game with a similar name that is popular in Korea. Hwang developed the concept in response to his own early-life financial hardships, the class divide in South Korea, and capitalism.

Lee Jung Jae is one of the most successful actors in the Korean entertainment industry. In addition to his work as an actor, Lee is also a successful businessman. He founded Seorim C&D, a development company, as well as a number of other companies, including a chain of restaurants in Seoul.
