The trailer begins with her brother’s voiceover explaining that Emanuela has been missing for 37 years. While another voice tells us that she was no ordinary youngster, she was a Vatican girl. This mystery connects the cult to terrorism and gangs, but no clear proof has been uncovered against anyone in particular.

Still from Vatican Girl’s The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi trailer Emanuela was the fourth of five children born to Ercole and Maria Orlandi. She attended a music school three times a week.

On Wednesday, June 22, 1983, she arrived late to class and called home in the evening, talking to one of her sisters. Since then, no sign of the adolescent has been found, and Italian investigators have been unable to determine what happened to her.

According to her sister, Emanuela allegedly talked about obtaining a job offer from an Avon business agent and was last seen getting into a giant, dark-colored BMW. After the news broke, the family received a phone call claiming she was a prisoner of a terrorist group seeking the release of Mehmet Ali Aca, the Turkish man who shot the Pope in May 1981.

Several theories have emerged in the media over the years, attributing the incident to organized crime or Vatican police, among other things.

The trailer includes the words, “Silence is the most agonizing thing a family can experience,” which rings true in this situation, where family members still wait for the truth about their beloved sister and daughter to be revealed.
