On September 9, 2022, “American Gigolo” will release its first episode on Showtime’s streaming service. The finale will probably air at the end of October because the show is anticipated to have eight episodes. This is quite obvious, but it’s unclear whether the program will also run on the original Showtime channel.
It might air that Friday, but it doesn’t seem plausible because primetime on that day is often regarded as a death slot.
Showtime has in the past made forthcoming episodes of programs like “Yellowjackets” available to watch a few days before they were shown on television. If “American Gigolo” will follow the same release plan is not yet known.
According to the “Yellowjackets” release schedule, it may debut on the streamer on Fridays and air the following Sunday or Monday. This is presently only conjecture, though.
The TV program and movie have the same name and main character, but their stories diverge in a few significant areas.

American Gigolo Plot
In all renditions, there is a murder and a framing scheme at work, notably in how Julian is set up for a crime he didn’t commit. But it sounds like the show will approach these events differently than Schrader’s movie.
Julian will be shown in the television series as having just been released from jail after serving 15 years for murder. Since it was evident that the police had the incorrect suspect, as was to be expected, Julian has now found himself looking for the actual offender.
When he’s not doing that, he’s trying to return to the constantly changing world of s*x work, which he finds difficult to adapt. The character of Michelle Stratton, formerly played by Lauren Hutton, will continue to play a significant part in the next season.
In the same way that she supplied the police with Julian’s alibi before his trial in the movie, it’s unclear if Gretchen Mol, who plays her now, assisted Julian in being released after all these years.

However, we know that the series will heavily revolve around her and Julian’s relationship. While Bernthal and his abs are undoubtedly the focus of the narrative, Mol and other characters will also undoubtedly appear.
Rosie O’Donnell, Wayne Brady, Lizzie Brocheré, Leland Orser, and Laura Liguori will also be present.
Some of these performers will portray characters from the original movie; for instance, O’Donnell will replace Hector Elizondo in the gender-flipped part of Detective Sunday, while Orser will portray Michelle’s husband, Richard, in a manner reminiscent of Brian Davies’ portrayal of Senator Charles Stratton.
Much more challenging to name is the cast of the series. Although the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, is also adapting, Schrader is not engaged in the project and has publicly criticized it.
Producer David Hollander of “Ray Donovan” created it, but after receiving claims of misbehavior, he was fired from his position as showrunner in April 2022.
The following month, his successor, David Bar Katz, left the project allegedly due to inexperience and artistic disputes. The “The Offer” showrunner Nikki Toscano has taken over for both men.
