Abbott Elementary Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything you need to know

Just a little while longer, school is out for the summer. ABC announced on Wednesday that Abbott Elementary will return for season 2 on September 21. For those of you who want to watch television the old-fashioned way, it is now broadcast on Wednesday nights.

The announcement is accompanied by a brand-new season-long advertising teaser featuring all the characters we’ve been missing over the previous few months: Melissa, played by Lisa Ann Walter, is seen biting into a hoagie, Jacob, played by Chris Perfetti, is seen cutesy fumbling with a briefcase, Ava, played by Janelle James, is seen struggling to unlock the school, and creator Quinta Brunson’s Janine suggests—to an immediate “no”—that they use the occasion for some team building.

Oh, and Gregory, played by Tyler James Williams, is back on the job full-time!

With a full order of 22 episodes, the next season will most likely run through the conclusion of the school year or close to it, starting with the season premiere, “Development Day,” and continuing with the upcoming holiday-themed “Holiday Hookah.” Among the additional changes?

Mr. Johnson the janitor, played by William Stanford Davis, has been promoted to series regular and can be seen jamming to Boyz II Men’s “Motownphilly” in the teaser.

Additionally, Principal Coleman might be able to add to the school’s collection of trophies following the Emmy Awards on September 12 when the program is up for seven prizes for its first season.

Williams pointed out that the storyline in Abbott Elementary has already made an impact on network television.

At the time, he stated, “Our play is very much about the adaptability of teachers, working within the limits of challenges and underfunding. “We have a real chance to humanize a group of people and tell their story in a way that could fundamentally alter the daily lives of the average person.”
