Twelve-year-old Evan Goldman and his mother Jessica leave New York City after his parents get divorced. Evan is heartbroken over the fact that he will have to say goodbye to all of his friends, as well as his father and his rabbi, in order to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. However, when he goes to his grandmother’s house in the rural Indiana town of Walkerton, he comes up with a scheme to make new friends by making his Bar Mitzvah the most trendy party ever.

Evan quickly learns he’s not the only eighth grader dealing with the all-too-familiar fears as he navigates the complex social circles of his new school. While his new friends Patrice and Archie worry about the future of the earth and unrequited love, respectively, popular cheerleader Lucy schemes furiously to prevent the first kiss between her crush Brett and best friend, Kendra.

To make matters even more difficult, Evan has invited all of the popular kids to his party, many of whom do not like Patrice. Evan must complete the daunting goal of bringing everyone together in time for his celebration despite their conflicting interests or else risk social collapse. Suddenly, turning 13 doesn’t seem to be all that exciting. 13: THE MUSICAL, which Tamra Davis is directing and is based on the wildly successful musical of the same name that had its Broadway debut in 2008, is a coming-of-age story that explores the unforgettable highs and lows of teenage life.
