Fans have been clamoring for Finn Wolfhard to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we now get our first glimpse at him as Wiccan in Doctor Strange 2.
Following the introduction of the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw the return of several fan-favourite actors from previous Spider-Man films, In the Multiverse of Madness, all eyes have been on Marvel’s plans for Doctor Strange.
Although Marvel has kept fans in the dark about the plot of the film for the most part, we do know that Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Stephen Strange, Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Christine Palmer, Benedict Wong will reprise his role as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor will reprise his role as Karl Mordo, and Wanda Vision star Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch.
Billy and Tommy, two Wanda Vision characters who appeared to be calling out to their mother in the last scene of the breakthrough Disney Plus original, are also expected to reappear in the film. While the characters in the Disney Plus series were played by younger actors, fans are excited to meet the more mature versions of the characters in Doctor Strange 2.
In the Marvel Universe, who is a Wiccan?
Wiccan initially appeared in Young Avengers #1 in 2005, for those unfamiliar with the character.
Wiccan (also known as Billy Kaplan) is Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch’s son in the comics. Billy shares many of his mother’s powers, making him a powerful witch with magical abilities. While his brother Tommy aka Speed has powers similar to his uncle Petro Maximoff aka Quicksilver.
Wiccan has been on several teams, including the Young Avengers and New Avengers, despite the fact that the character is still relatively new compared to other Marvel heroes. In addition, as a prominent LGBTQ+ character in Marvel comics, he has had a significant impact.
