Skryim Updates: Daedric Prince Jyggalag was supposed to return to The Elder Scrolls series, after having remembered all the events. Why was he not included in Skyrim?
Why was Jyggalag excluded from Skyrim?
The Daedric Princesses are some of the most frequently featured characters in The Elder Scrolls series, but the same cannot necessarily be said of them all. Because Jyggalag is perhaps the least used of Daedra, which physically appears in only one game of the franchise and receives only a small handful of in-universe references.
Yet the events of Oblivion have laid the groundwork for allowing him to play a more prominent role in moving forward; but why was he still excluded from Skyrim?
In most Elder Scrolls games, there were sixteen daedric princes of varying prominence, representing the most powerful of Daedra and ruling over specific planes of oblivion. However, beginning with Daggerfall, there are references to the seventeenth Daedric prince in the universe, known as Jyggalag, who serves as Prince of the Order.
Morrowind and later The Elder Scrolls Online also added books that referenced the existence of Jyggalag, but their fate and the reason why they were physically dropped from the series was relatively unclear. He may have had to stay outside because of his physical appearance.
ScreenRantThe main quest of this expansion featured Jyggalag as its primary antagonist, and it was revealed that other Daedric princes had cursed him to spend most of his time as the fan-favorite character Shogorath due to fear of his power.
At the end of the quest, he appears to have returned to his proper form full-time, though which made it confusing when he was absent from Skyrim, the next game on the timeline.
Skryim: Why is the Jyggalag not visible?
While there are no concrete answers, in-universe or out-of-games that can explain why Jyggalag isn’t visible in Skyrim, there are a few possible reasons why it might. At the end of the Shiver Islands quest, Jyggalag himself hints that he intends to keep to himself for some time, possibly looking to reinvent his power and let the planes of oblivion roam freely because He has been unable for millennia.
Additionally, Daedric Princesses mainly only appear in Skyrim during the quest to obtain Daedric Artifacts. Although Jyggalag has an artifact The Sword of Jyggalag, it has yet to appear outside the Shiver Isles expansion (apart from creation for the Skyrim Special, Edition called Saints and Seducers), meaning it appears to be usually But is not handed over to mortals like many other daedric artifacts.
This may help explain why Dragonborn hasn’t been given the opportunity to team up with Jyggalag, and it could mean that there is room for change in the next Elder Scrolls release.
