Google To Train: Seems like Google has some really big plans for India. On Tuesday, Google revealed some of their newer projects, and they are quite exciting.
Google said that it is putting efforts to strengthen digital skills in journalism schools. It is aiming to train approximately 50,000 journalists as well as journalism students over the next three years. Well this is what Brad Bender, Vice President from Google, said.
He also stated the fact that they would ensure that the traffic would be driven back to the website of the publisher, to ensure that more and more people engage with the writer.
“We are also paying publishers for access to paywalled content to provide users free access to selected content, enabling people to try content that may not have otherwise seen on their journey to becoming a subscriber.”, he added.
Google News Showcase is going to be started in India, and additionally, talks are going on with various big news partners to further expand the horizon.
Google To Train on Digital Skills
UpSkill DigitalOn the matter of news websites, Bender said that Google tries to help the news websites as much as possible. He added that on an average, they send about 24 billion visits to news websites globally every month.
This enables readers to have access to various news sources, and also helps the news agency to monetize their platform via subscriptions and all.
According to the country head and vice president India, Sanjay Gupta, News has always been among the top priorities of Google. The brand has always tried to make news websites reachable to the readers and it would be even more prioritised in the future. He added that there has been a shift of users from Print and Digital news to articles and news websites.
“We were very keen to get Showcase to India. Over the last 8-9 months, we spent a lot of time talking to each one of the publisher partners to see how we can both enable them and work with them,” he added.
Content from partner publishers will begin to appear in News Showcase in Google News. It will initially come in English and Hindi, and other Indic languages later.
