In the first episode which was also titled “Offred,” the viewers got to know that the first Offred killed herself by hanging herself in Waterford’s home. Fred was having an affair with Offred and just like June, the feelings weren’t reciprocated. In the series, we see that Handmaids generally do not have any choice when it comes to the s*xual desires of their Commanders even though adultery is a high crime in Gilead. Viewers also saw that Fred was in love with the first Offred and he also fell in love with June, the second Offred. Until his death in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 finale, Fred used to believe that June loved him too. He convinced himself the first Offred reciprocated his feelings as well but what happened was quite wild.

Now what viewers are looking forward to seeing is what Fred and Serena’s life was like in the first years in Gilead. The fans have got some backstories from previous seasons and learned that Waterford’s first Handmaid died by suicide. Fans also got to know that Fred had feelings for that Handmaid as just like he had feelings for June. Besides, Serena knew everything about the same. The Waterford’s home was June’s second posting and she spent seven years trapped in Gilead. There was a sufficient time period before June met Fred and Serena to examine.

Joseph Fiennes will be in Season 5 or not?

Coming to the question of whether Joseph Fiennes will be in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 or not? Let us look at it. The viewers know that Fred met his end in the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale and one cannot deny the fact that it was one of the most therapeutic moments in the entire series. Fans saw June and Mark Tuello making an exchange with Commander Lawrence in the finale of the fourth season. And his comments revealed that Fred’s death was going to be part of season four before the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to make plot changes. Miller had stated,

“The character dying doesn’t mean Joe stops coming and being part of the cast. We do have quite a heavy flashback show”.

About the Release Date

Coming to the release of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5, the fans believe that the season fifth release is likely to experience a delay. The makers and show’s cast had announced that renewal for the fifth season of the popular show in December 2020 even before the fourth season began airing. Although nothing has been confirmed so far. Some fan theories believe that the show might experience some delays and it might get released either by late 2022 or by early 2023.

However, neither Hulu nor the show’s creators have confirmed anything with regards to the premiere date of the show but we surely believe that fans might have to wait a little longer to have a look at their favorite handmaids.
