Senna: Formula 1 Biopic Everything You Need to Know!

One of Netflix’s most interesting and ambitious series to ever hit the screens in Latin America, this biopic centers on the life of celebrated champion Formula 1 driver – Ayrton Senna. 

‘Senna’ is an upcoming Brazilian Netflix biopic series that tells viewers about the life and career of legendary Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna. How do we know about his legendary career? Well, he is a three-time world championship-winning driver.

We’re keeping close track of the series, but we do know that the project was first announced way back in 2020 whilst it was mentioned in 2022 that Vicente Amorim would be directing the series – his previously renowned works include Yakuza Princess, the Dirty Hearts and Good.

Whereas, we have intel that Julia Rezende would be listed as one of the directors and the production house for the series would be handed to Gullane.

The director Vicente Amorim mentioned that he had seen several idols in the sports industry – but he only saw one hero and that trophy would always belong to Senna.

Amorim had seen all his races, he rooted for this legendary star for all his games, he was inspired and he was ‘in tears the day Senna died’.

But who is Senna?

An international hero, Ayrton Senna de Silva was a Brazilian racing driver – a legend on the Formula 1 race tracks as he was also one of the greatest in the history of this sport.

Senna became one of the three Brazilian drivers to win the world champion title, given that he won the championship three times while driving the racing team, McLaren.

He also won a total of 41 Grand Prix and held the phenomenal record for most positions held – which stood at 65, until he was beaten in 2006.

All legends have an expiry date, and sadly this was no exception for Senna when a tragic accident led to his death on May 1st, 1994.

The director of the series, Vicente Amorim wants to portray the legendary hero through the lens – the series will have a global reach that will move the home crowd of Brazil and tell Senna’s fantastic story to the world at large.

The series will explore the legend’s personality, his early life, family, and relationships. Every legend has a starting point – in this case, Senna’s career debut when he moved to England his upward journey towards success and thereby achieving it.

The series will also culminate in the tragic accident in Italy that claimed Senna’s life – but not his legacy.

It has been mentioned that Senna will be released on Netflix in 2024 – not before and fans are looking forward to seeing the life story of this legendary star.

The series is set to be multilingual and filmed in English, Brazilian, and Portuguese whilst the entire series has a total of 8 episodes with run time of approximately 60 minutes each.
