A Beautiful Life Ending Explained: What Does Elliott’s Final Song Mean?

The latest Danish film A Beautiful Life on Netflix is an emotional musical story of dreams, life, and love.

Elliott Winther, an ordinary fisherman, rose to fame after being discovered by Suzanne Taylor, the late music superstar Vince Taylor’s widow. Elliot’s rise to stardom is explored in A Beautiful Life.

As he attempts to negotiate his new existence, we see his indecisiveness, prior pain, and fear of losing comfort. Elliott grows closer to Suzanne’s daughter, Lilly.

Despite their vast differences, they felt comparable sadness, which pulled them closer together in specific ways.

Elliott strained to keep up with his fast-changing life. Finally, he had to decide whether to give music a chance or forsake it entirely for his mental peace.

Elliott’s family died when he was young, and the only mementos of their lives he has are a photograph and his father’s boat, which he lives in.

The boat brings him closer to his parents, and he’s been saving money by working as a fisherman to go across the world.

Growing up was difficult for Elliott, who spent his youth living with foster families and in children’s homes.

Lilly, on the other hand, was born into a wealthy household. Her father’s absence, on the other hand, had a profound effect on her. As a prolific artist, he was frequently willing to go to extremes to satisfy his audience, often at the sacrifice of his own family.

Lilly attempted to connect with her father despite her hatred, but he was never truly there. In reality, he died after leaping from a balcony following his performance. Hearing this, Lilly and Elliott connect and become closer, bonding over their shared grief. They start writing music together.

Do Lily and Suzanne talk about their problems?

When Lilly confronts her mother about the past, we learn more about what happened with Lily’s father.

All of this stems from Lilly’s father, who committed suicide. But, on the other hand, Suzanne says she didn’t answer the phone that night because she was worried he’d tell her it was all over.

Suzanne couldn’t put Lilly through that and give her a terrible view of her father, knowing how much she loves him.

Lilly acknowledges that it was her, not her father, who called that night. She was at the hotel that night but did not arrive in time for the room.

Suzanne was the only thing she needed, but she wasn’t there. After clearing the air, these two embrace and mend their long-discontinued closeness.

What does Elliott choose to do in terms of his career?

A Beautiful Life
Netflix

With Elliott’s friend gone, his boat wrecked, and his career on the line, Lilly throws a significant surprise on him: she’s pregnant.

Elliott has everything on the line since he’ll be standing on Skanderborg’s main stage in 48 hours and must decide. But he remains silent. Stunned into submission and unable to figure out what is going on.

The audience comes to his rescue when he stops on stage since they know his lines.

Instead of his first chart-topping single, he performs “Baby, I’m Pregnant” straight to Lilly. He is aware that having a kid will change his life, but he is sure that everything will be okay with Lily at his side.

The movie ends immediately after he finishes singing it. Then, in the credits, he continues to play to sold-out audiences. So it’s uncertain if he chooses her and continues to sing or whether he realizes that their love wasn’t meant to be and was just for a brief time.
