Producers Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin from Rideback (formerly Lin Pictures) officially confirmed the live-action adaptation in October 2018.
The script for the adaptation was supposed to be written by Mike Van Waes, but current reports say Chris Kekaniokalani Bright would do it.
The forthcoming film will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp. Fleischer Camp’s 2021 animated feature film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On was recognized with a nomination for an Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Feature at the 95th Annual Academy Awards.
