Eric Heisserer developed the popular American fantasy television series ‘Shadow and Bone which is adapted from Leigh Bardugo’s book series on Grishaverse- ‘Shadow and Bone’ and ‘Six of Crows’.

The plot is primarily set in the nation of Ravka, one of Grisha’s many nations inhabited by people who are able to use magic or “The Small Science”.

The protagonist of the story is an orphan young woman named Alina Starkov who discovers herself to be the Sun Summoner which is to be able to summon light. But this discovery not only bestows Alina with a lot of responsibilities but also makes her the subject of evil plots and attacks.

When Is Shadow and Bone Season 2 Releasing?

The series was first announced by Netflix in January 2019. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, premiered on April 23, 2021, on Netflix. A second season was renewed in June of 2021.

The filming of the upcoming season began in January 2022. YouTube released an official trailer of the series on February 17, 2023.  The season is scheduled to be released on 16th March this year. It will consist of eight episodes as well.

Shadow and Bone Season 2 Is coming on March 16th, 2023 on Netflix.

Jessie Mei Li-

Portraying the protagonist, the orphan Alina Starkov, English actress Jessie Mei Li will be back for the upcoming season. She previously appeared in a few films and television series in minor roles.

‘Shadow and Bone’ has given her prominence in her acting career. Li will star in the role of Ellie in the upcoming British American action thriller movie ‘Havoc’ set to be released in 2023.

Archie Renaux-

English actor model Archie Renaux will be back for Season 2 of the series to play the character of Malyen “Mal” Oretsev. He starred as Leo Day in BBC One’s six-part drama miniseries ‘Gold Digger’ in 2019.

His film credits include ‘Voyagers’, ‘Catherine Called Birdy’, and ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever‘.

Freddy Carter-

The character of Kaz Brekker, leader of a gang called Crows, who wants to kidnap Alina, will be reprised by English actor Freddy Carter in the upcoming season. She previously starred in the main role of Peter “Pin” Hawthorne in the British tv series ‘Free Rein‘ from 2017 to 2019.

Her film credits include ‘The Convent‘ and the Netflix films ‘Free Rein: The Twelve Neighs of Christmas’ and ‘Free Rein: Valentine’s Day’.

Amita Suman-

Nepal-born British actress Amita Suman will reprise the role of Crows member Inej Ghafa. She also played the recurring character Nays in the second and fourth seasons of The CW’s fantasy adventure series ‘The Outpost‘ in 2019 and 2021.

Kit Young-

The character of another Crows member Jesper Fahey will be reprised by British actor Kit Young in the upcoming Season 2. He has also starred as Rafal / Rhian in the fantasy movie ‘The School for Good and Evil’ in 2022.

Lewis Tan-

English actor and martial artist Lewis Tan has joined the cast for Season 2 to play Tolya Yul-Bataar. He played the main cast member Gaius Chau in the third season of AMC’s tv series ‘Into the Badlands from 2018 to 2019.

Tan also played Lu Xin Lee in the supernatural action tv series ‘Wu Assassins in 2019. His film credits include ‘Sacrifice’, ‘Mortal Kombat’, ‘Fistful of Vengeance‘, ‘About Fate’, etc.

Patrick Gibson-

Another new cast member Irish actor Patrick Gibson will play Nikolai Lantsov in the upcoming season. He starred as Steve Winchell in the mystery drama series ‘The OA from 2016 to 2019.

In 2017 he played Perkin Warbeck / Prince Richard in the historical miniseries ‘The White Princess’. Gibson’s film credits include ‘Gold’, ‘In a Relationship’, ‘The Darkest Minds’, ‘Tolkien’, ‘The Portable Door’ etc.

Anna Leong Brophy-

British actor and comedian Anna Leong Brophy has also joined Season 2 to play Tamar Kir-Bataar. She previously starred in the British crime drama series ‘Traces’ from 2019 to 2020.

Jack Wolfe-

To play Wylan Hendriks, English actor Jack Wolfe will star in the upcoming second season. In 2018 he played the main role of Samuel Buscombe in the fourth series of ‘Hetty Feather’.

He also starred in the main role of Tim Walker / Prince Tamino in the 2022 German musical fantasy film ‘The Magic Flute’.

Daisy Head-

English actress Daisy Head, who played Genya Safin, has been lifted to the main role from a recurring role in the upcoming season.

Danielle Galligan-

Irish actress Danielle Galligan has also become a regular cast member in the upcoming season in which she will reprise her role as Nina Zenik.

Calahan Skogman-

Calahan Skogman who is an American actor and an ex-collegiate basketball and football player is also going to appear as a regular cast member in Season 2 reprising his role of Matthias.
