The plot follows Dr. Max Goodwin, who ascends to the head of one of the largest surviving hospitals in the United States, with the goal of reforming the neglected facility by virtually rebuilding it from the ground up.

However, while this program is fun and has lots of emotional scenes, there are countless more shows like New Amsterdam that you can watch online. From classic favorites like House to newer series like Transplant, these are the finest shows to watch right now, from Netflix to Peacock.

Here is the list of the Top 10 Shows Like New Amsterdam, you can watch.

1. Chicago Med – Medical drama ‧ 8 seasons

Entertainment Weekly

Chicago Med is a medical drama that is part of the One Chicago show, which further includes Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire. Chicago Med, on the other hand, focuses solely on Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s emergency unit, as well as the nurses and doctors who fight to save people’s lives. It appears to be more realistic than many of the television shows on this list.

2. The Resident – Drama ‧ 6 seasons

Entertainment Tonight

The Resident is all about a young doctor who begins his residency at a hospital under the supervision of a senior resident who appears to be a normal, tough, and super-smart guy. But inside, he’s a cunning, dangerous, and deadly psychopath.

It’s most certainly the darkest TV show on this list, but my god is it so much fun. While New Amsterdam is about what you would expect when you think of medical dramas – big operation scenes, emotional moments, strong character development over seasons – The Resident takes all of that and turns it on its heels, upping the stakes more so now that a menacing doctor is a part of the main lineup.

3. Grey’s Anatomy – Drama ‧ 19 seasons

Entertainment Weekly

Grey’s Anatomy is considered one of the best shows to watch if you enjoy New Amsterdam since it focuses on personal ties. Because the show has been airing for so long, you get to see these characters, especially Meredith, evolve and create themselves through time, finally coming into their own.

4. ER – Drama ‧ 15 seasons

Amazon.com

Moving on to another series centered on the emergency department, we take a closer look at the aptly called ER. The series, as one might imagine, depicts the difficulties that physicians, nurses, and staff encounter on a daily basis at County General Hospital, a fictitious level-one trauma center in Chicago.

While it is more intense than New Amsterdam, it contains exactly as much drama as you would anticipate. Furthermore, ER ran for fifteen seasons, demonstrating how successful it was from 1994 to 2008. Shows like ER are what really made the medical drama category popular, so if you’re interested in it, you should absolutely watch this legendary series.

5. House – Drama ‧ 8 seasons

IMDb

While the other series on this list cover many elements of hospital life, House focuses on what it’s like to identify and treat unusual and severe diseases. And, to be honest, Dr. Gregory House is a fantastic anti-hero; he’s twisted up in so many ways, but he’s also a fascinating character with a complex personality.

It’s obviously a departure from a show like New Amsterdam, but I’m hoping that if you like strong leads, you’ll enjoy House.

6. This Is Us – Tragedy ‧ 6 seasons

Radio Times

This is Us is a series for lovers of New Amsterdam. This Is Us chronicles the Pearson family, a modern American household with triplets – two biological and one adopted – and the hardships and tribulations they all face in their own lives as well as when their lives intersect.

Except for the births of neonates, there isn’t anything particularly medical about this show. Nonetheless, it has made the list because This Is Us has the same emotional rhythms as New Amsterdam.

Many times, you just want to leap into the Television screen and embrace the characters. You develop a strong bond with them. It’s perfect for people who want to laugh and weep at the same time.

7. The Night Shift – Drama ‧ 4 seasons

TVLine

The idea of The Night Shift is precisely what you’d imagine it to be about: what it’s like to work on the quote-unquote “night shift” at San Antonio Memorial Hospital, where you’d come across some of the oddest and most intriguing medical situations.

The Night Shift is a fantastic fit for lovers of New Amsterdam, because many of the cases in The Night Shift remind me of some of the occurrences in New Amsterdam, owing to the seriousness of some of the scenarios that arise when someone arrives at the hospital late at night.

8. A Million Little Things – Drama ‧ 5 seasons

Variety

A Million Little Things will steal your heart and then some. The narrative takes place in Boston when a group of friends lose one of their pals by suicide and must find out how to move on with their lives.

Again, this program has nothing to do with hospitals or medical drama, yet it’s one of the finest dramas out there because it addresses a topic that many hospital shows, as well as New Amsterdam, address – the sensation of loss, of losing someone you genuinely love.

And A Million Little Things is so brilliantly written about it that you’ll find yourselves acquiring life lessons from this ABC classic.

9. The Good Doctor – A medical drama ‧ 6 seasons

Good Housekeeping

The Good Doctor was an instant hit for ABC.  Although some of the scenarios may look unrealistic at times, it’s a fascinating component. A surgeon with autism and savant syndrome bodes well for originality, with a cast full of intriguing people, and Freddie Highmore does a fantastic job as Dr. Shaun Murphy.

10. Transplant – Drama ‧ 3 seasons

Variety

Transplant is a great plot for a medical drama. The series follows Dr. Bashir Hamed, a Syrian doctor with “battle-tested” talents in emergency treatment who escaped Syria with his sister. The first season follows their difficulties to make a new life in Canada, as well as Hamed’s medical profession.

With the typical medical sequences that you would anticipate, Transplant gives plenty of those and more with a rich plot that truly displays a real rags-to-riches story – in a different type of way.
