The story of Home Economics centers on three siblings. The family consists of Tom, the oldest, his wife Marina, and their three children, and they are regarded as a family from the middle class.
Sarah, the middle child of the three, along with her wife Denise and their two adopted children, live in a cramped apartment and are only just able to get by on their combined modest earnings. The series opens with the youngest character, Connor, finalizing a divorce despite being very well off financially.
