Soulstice Review: The Sacred City of Elden is the ideal setting for the evil Spawn of Chaos, an army of demonic beings that just so happens to be flooding into the city via a massive Tear in the sky, similar to Dragon Age Inquisition’s Fade Rift or Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ enormous Space-Time Rift.

No one is more equipped to fight the invasion than the battle-tested warrior Briar and her ghostly companion/sister Lute. They are both Chimeras, members of the secretive Order of the Ashen Blade, the purported heroes of this planet.

You, playing as the dynamic pair, are left to defeat the Spawn of Chaos by yourself, barring the assistance of a few allies. You, acting as the dynamic pair, are left to defeat the Spawn of Chaos by yourself – if not for the assistance of a few odd pals.

Unfortunately, things don’t quite work out with the other Chimera. This is the basis of Soulstice, a third-person action-adventure game featuring frantic combat that would fit well with any Devil May Cry game.

In Soulstice, you’ll spend most of your time controlling Briar, who Lute follows about in her ghostly form as you travel from task to mission in a linear fashion; however, occasionally, you can also find yourself controlling Lute during important plot sections.

Briar and Lute’s interaction is undeniably noteworthy as a solid plus, especially considering that Lute may calm one of Soulstice’s many foes in the middle of an attack, allowing Briar to charge in and deliver significant damage.

This energy is intensified by how the universe is made and the demonic beings inhabiting it. Some of these monsters are incorporeal before you activate one of two distinct “fields” by pulling the left or right triggers makes things more fascinating.

Soulstice Control

Given that they are all initiated by relatively simple button combinations, there is the impression that Briar and Lute’s unique skills are all simple to learn but challenging to master. Take the Piercing Lunge move, for instance, which you may initiate by lightly pushing your left stick forward twice before pressing the Y button.

This score is typically presented to you in numerical form after each battle, but to add even more complexity to this system, if your Unity level rises high enough, you can activate the slick-feeling and compelling Rapture mode by pressing both triggers simultaneously. However, you’ll want to save this ability for the right time to maximize your limited Unity recharging.

Boss fight

When you engage in some of the boss battles, which are all different from one another and each challenging in their way, Soulstice frequently throws many variations of these monsters at you.

It may have been the most challenging fight I’d faced since attempting to defeat the Crucible Knight and Misbegotten Warrior duo in Elden Ring, which is saying something.

One such fight has you rushing back and forth between crowds of monsters and the boss itself, whose name I’m forgetting now but can quickly drain your health bar from a range with its giant red laser arrows if you don’t adequately plan your jumps.

I’m looking forward to Soulstice when it launches on September 20 for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox platforms.
