The GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini: Design, Battery, Features, and More!

The new GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini is identical to the Hero 10 Black in terms of look and physical dimensions.

Different from the inscription ’11 Black’ on the sides of the camera, it’s hard to tell the two apart. The new camera features the same challenging build and is waterproof to 10 meters.

On the rear is a 2.27-inch touchscreen display, while on the front is a smaller, non-touch color display. The lens cover is detachable, and the 11 Black is compatible with the Max Lens Mod. The bottom of the camera includes collapsible mounting fingers, while a flap on the side protects the battery and USB Type-C connection.

The Hero 11 Black Mini weighs 133g, which is 15% more than the original GoPro Hero 11 Black. It’s also relatively thin at 52.4mm.

The GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini Battery life

Although GoPro labels it an Enduro battery, its 1500mAh capacity is smaller than that of GoPros since Hero 8 Black. Of course, there are no vast and bright screens to power.

Still, the battery-saving impact won’t be as noticeable in the set it and forget it scenarios, where the Mini excels since the display of a conventional GoPro would time out relatively fast anyway.

The battery is the most critical concern here for the correct sort of action camera user. It’s non-removable, so you’ll be limited to the Enduro cell’s run time — and many regular GoPro users have a few backup batteries on hand to shoot for longer.

While shooting, you’ll have to recharge the GoPro 11 Black Mini with an external battery pack, and GoPro makes no remarkable promises about charging speed.

Price of GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini

If you passed on the GoPro Hero 10 Black, the Hero 11 Black could be an attractive alternative, as it is somewhat less expensive at $611.21

Increased Field of View

With the Hero 11 Black, GoPro launched a new 1/1.9 sensor, allowing for an 8:7 field of view. As a result, you may now shoot a broad, nearly square picture at high resolution and crop it into any ratio later.

It’s a valuable tool for content makers that publish to several platforms, as they won’t have to film separate fields of view for different use-cases, whether on TikTok or YouTube.

This brings up another point: taking images with a GoPro may become redundant with such high video quality. It’s significantly quicker to record video and then capture a still frame later—even GoPro recommends this way today.

Image Stabilization & Horizon Lock

Max Lens Mod is now integrated into the camera lens. Consequently, there is improved stabilization and the option of a 360-degree horizon lock, which allows you to turn the camera upside down. In contrast, the horizon remains precisely level and upright.

In my perspective, Hypersmooth 5.0, the latest edition of GoPro’s stabilization layer, is somewhat better than the previous version because Hypersmooth 4.0 was already quite honed.

In addition, it gives gimbal-like smoothness to footage without using other equipment, so you may record while running down rocky terrain, and the footage will be steady.

Modes of Light Trail

In my opinion, the night modes hidden inside the camera’s Time Lapse function are the most creative and aesthetically impactful features of the Hero 11 Black. There are three of them: Star Trails, Light Painting, and Vehicle Light Trails.

Each is geared toward shooting things with a trailing effect, automating a photographic technique that is difficult to master with a standard camera.

This video effect creates a timelapse of the light trails growing, which makes for some very wild footage, but you can also grab high-resolution still frames as with any Hero 11 Black recording.
