Henry Cavill as Captain Britain? What do you think?

We had Emilia Clarke as Mera in Aquaman and now Instagram user Subi Ozil is promoting Henry Cavill as Captain Britain. The fan art is so good you’d almost think it was part of Marvel’s Phase IV release.

The post shows Cavill in the Captain America suit worn by Chris Evans at the start of his portrayal as the superhero. Unlike Evan’s Captain America, Cavill has a lightning sword and no signature shield in sight.

Substituting a shield for a sword is excellent attention to detail on Ozil’s part. An Englishman with superhuman strength in the early 20th century would most likely be a knight, and what better sword to wield than the legendary Excalibur?

While it’s not uncommon for actors to switch comic book universes, he’s never been one of the two leads. Never mind that Cavill has been the face of Marvel’s DCEU Superman for nearly a decade. He has already played the role of a superman with incredible strength, laser eyes, and one weakness – kryptonite.

For example, Idris Elba was Heimdall, a supporting character in Thor, while starring as Bloodsport in Suicide Squad. This is because these roles become more significant than the actors who play them, and it will be hard to sell Superman and Captain Britain as the same person, perhaps if he loses his DCEU role to a potential Marvel.

For your dose of Cavill action, while Justice League is on hiatus, you can watch him in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. During the global TUDUM event, the streaming platform announced the development of a third season in the series.

While The Witcher is still next year, Cavill will reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes II this November. This year, Cavill will also appear alongside pop sensation Dua Lipa in the Apple TV series Argyle.

The spy detective/thriller also boasts big names like multi-award-winning actress Ariana DeBose, Bryce Dallas Howard, and John Cena. Lip’s role has yet to be identified, but with Cavill’s latest entry, fans expect it to be something major.
