The show focuses on the dispatchers, paramedics, firefighters, and police officers of Los Angeles. On January 3, 2018, the show debuted. DreamWorks, Ryan Murphy Television, and 20th Television collaborated to produce 9-1-1.

Aisha Hinds, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Aisha Bassett, Kenneth Choi, Rockmond Dunbar, Connie Britton, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Corinne Massiah, and Marcanthonee are among the actors who appear in the series.

According to 33 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has a 70% approval rating with an average score of 5.90/10. “9-1-1 occasionally veers into melodrama but is redeemed with a top-tier ensemble, heart-pounding action, and a touch of trashy camp that takes the show into an addicting guilty pleasure zone,” the website’s critical consensus states.

Based on reviews from 21 critics, the weighted average review site Metacritic gave the film a score of 60 out of 100, indicating “mixed or mediocre reviews.”

Amy Amatangelo of Paste complimented the calamities presented across the series and the action sequences and applauded Angela Bassett’s acting and her character’s plot while appreciating the evolution of the characters across their relationships.

According to Steve Greene of IndieWire, the show “9-1-1” manages to feel realistic and emotional via its language and the connections between the characters. He also commended the action sequences with the many calamities and the cast’s performances.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Daniel Feinberg praised the cast’s performances and described the characters as decent. He described the series as a typical but good procedural drama, similar to the Chicago series.

According to Suzi Feay of the Financial Times, 9-1-1 has the potential to become a classic of the “hero genre,” rating the first season 4 out of 5 stars, calling it an emotional and juddering drama series across its emergency calls.

Season one received a 3 out of 5-star rating from Melissa Camacho of Common Sense Media. She praised the show’s portrayal of positive themes and role models and said that it showed how challenging, frightening, and personally rewarding being a first responder can be through its characters.

The second season has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 7 reviews, with an average score of 7.75/10.

According to Brian Grubb of Uproxx, the second season of the show manages to be more ambitious than the first, hailing the disasters and action scenes as well as the cast’s performances and the character development.
