Bella Hadid Opens About Her Struggle With Anxiety

Bella Hadid has spoken up about her prior mental health issues and difficulties with ‘eating disorders.’

The model Bella Hadid, 25, spoke out about her struggles as a youngster suffering from severe anxiety and body dysmorphia before becoming a household name and one of the world’s most sought-after models.

Bella Hadid also stated that as a young adolescent, she wished to have counseling to assist with “crying every day and battling with eating problems.” The model discussed her youth, revealing that she began smoking extensively at the age of 14 and lived with severe anxiety.

‘Growing up, I felt it was normal that I had this chronic anxiety and disassociation, sobbing every day and not knowing who I was,’ Bella told the i-D magazine.

“Whether it was eating issues or smoking a pack of Marlboros since I was fourteen, I was like, ‘Oh, this is what all the kids are doing.’”

She goes on to explain how she suffered from body dysmorphia in the early stages of her modeling career, saying, “During that phase of my life, I was so out of the body, disassociating so much… I was so bewildered by what people saw of me.”

Aside from modeling, Bella will make her acting debut this year in the Hulu series Ramy. The plot revolves around a first-generation American Muslim divided between his family’s culture and American society.

Bella said she appreciated being on set, where she stated there were a lot of other individuals of Palestinian descent, which she isn’t used to.

‘It was really, very amazing to go onto a set and see several Palestinians, Arabs, and people that are cut from the same fabric as me,’ she added.

For the uninitiated, her father, Mohamed Hadid, is a Palestinian Jordanian real estate tycoon, and her mother, Yolanda Hadid, is a Dutch former model who reared Bella, Gigi, and Anwar in Santa Barbara, California before moving to Beverly Hills.
