American martial arts comedy series ‘Cobra Kai’ is the sequel series of popular late 1980s and 1990s martial arts movies by Robert Mark Kamen- ‘The Karate Kid’.
Hayden Schlossberg, Jon Hurwitz, and Josh Heald created this new series that brings back our familiar protagonist and antagonist Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. But this time the events are told from the perspective of Johnny Lawrence. The plot is set thirty-four years after its defeat in the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament by Daniel LaRusso.
The familiar faces of Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles in the series playing Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence respectively.
Other cast members of the series are Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Dallas Dupree Young, Thomas Ian Griffith, etc.
The series was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2021. The series is extremely popular with both critics and general viewers. ‘Cobra Kai’ premiered on May 2, 2018, on YouTube Red.
The fifth season of the series was released on Netflix on September 9, 2022, and has already scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
