Simone Missick, the actress of the courtroom drama, tells EW ahead of Tuesday night’s debut that she screamed for delight in her garden when she received the news that OWN had taken up the show for a third season after CBS had canceled it after two seasons.
“It seemed like years of vision boards had finally come to fruition when I heard out we were headed to the Oprah Winfrey Network,” the actress, who takes over as executive producer for the upcoming season, explains.
Being on Oprah’s network, which is so committed to delivering powerful stories about Black women, seemed like it was meant to be since I have always been a tremendous admirer of her as a talk show presenter, producer, actress, and woman.
Season 3’s cases include an Instagram influencer accusing a well-known athlete of assault, a wrongfully imprisoned inmate who may be freed, and a serial murderer. Fans can also anticipate a closer look at Judge Lola Carmichael’s (Missick) private life.

Harris-Lawrence hints that a substantial change in the connection between Sherri Kansky (Ruthie Ann Miles) and Lola will provide the actors with some fantastic material and allow viewers to understand more about Sherri.
Sara’s compassion and empathy have been demonstrated to viewers, thus it seems to sense that she is pursuing a career as a victim advocate. Due to her prior role as Lola’s court stenographer, Sara’s current adventure will allow viewers to see more of the character.
According to Harris-Lawrence, “She truly blossoms this season and learns whether or not she wants to be part of the [Hall of Justice].” With Sara spending more time in the district attorney’s office, Mark Callan (Wilson Bethel) may see her more often. Sara’s available old position will also give some comic relief with a “revolving door of courtroom stenographers.”
