Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Renewal Status, and What we know so far

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 has been confirmed. Despite a limited marketing effort and a rushed release schedule, the historically-inspired rom-com starring Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet and Taika Waititi as Edward Teach AKA Blackbeard became a major smash on the streaming site after its premiere this spring.

Fans soon demanded more, praising the show’s offbeat mix of comedy, eclectic ensemble, and central lesbian romance.

According to statistics provided by Parrot Analytics, the hashtag #RenewOurFlagMeansDeath trended internationally continuously in the weeks following the show’s finale, and it topped the list of most watched new streaming series for seven consecutive weeks.

It’s unclear what those potential scheduling conflicts will entail for the upcoming season of Our Flag Means Death’s storyline, and there have been no announcements about when the next episode will air.

The first season was partially inspired by Stede Bonnet, an 18th century would-be pirate (Rhys Darby). “Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge after trading in the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for that of a swashbuckling buccaneer,” reads the official description.

“Following a catastrophic run-in with the famed Captain Blackbeard, Stede’s fortunes shifted after a fateful run-in with his potentially mutinous crew” (Waititi). On the open seas, the wildly dissimilar Stede and Blackbeard discovered more than camaraderie.

The first season of Our Flag Means Death ended with Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) finally discovering they’d fallen in love, just as their plan to escape away and start a new life together was thwarted by a combination of bad timing and communication.

When we chatted with Jenkins earlier this year about season 2 before it was officially revealed, he indicated that the upcoming chapters of Our Flag Means Death would examine Stede and Blackbeard’s emotional states following their breakup.

The first season of the show had ten episodes. That may also be the case for the second season. The show is in production currently.

The fandom of the show is actually due credit as their support might have been the reason for the return of the show. The show’s creator, David Jenkins said, “We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans’ open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes heading into a second season all the sweeter,” Jenkins said.
