Millie Bobby Brown Reacts to Gross Comments She Received After Turning 18

Published by

Millie Bobby Brown is speaking out about how she’s been s*xualized and discussed in the media, calling it “sick.” This month, the “Stranger Things” star spoke on “The Guilty Feminist” podcast, where she discussed growing up in the spotlight.

Brown got the role of Eleven on the Netflix blockbuster series when she was only 12 years old. She stated she’d been coping with criticisms about her appearance “forever” in the interview. After she turned 18 in February, she noticed a significant shift in how the press and social media portrayed her.

Brown told host Deborah Frances-White and actor Susan Wokoma, “I deal with the same problems any 18-year-old deals with, balancing becoming an adult and having relationships and friendships, and it’s all of those things.” “Trying to fit in and be accepted is a lot, and you’re trying to find yourself while doing it.” The only difference is that I’m doing it in front of the camera. As a result, it’s easy to become overwhelmed.”

“Within the last two weeks of turning 18, I’ve definitely been dealing with that more.” She stated, “I’m definitely witnessing a difference between how people respond and how the press and social media have reacted to my coming of age.” “I don’t think that changes anything, but it’s gross and real.”

“It’s a pretty good picture of what’s going on in the world and how young girls are s*xualized,” the “Enola Holmes” actress remarked.

“I’ve been dealing with it,” she continues, “but I’ve also been dealing with it for a long time.”

Brown then recalled a day when she was 16 and opted to attend a red-carpet event in a poofy, lower-cut dress. She recalls being “crucified” because she was dressed in the gown.

She’s also well aware of her celebrity status and the power she wields over her 48.2 million Instagram followers. Brown stated that she understands how harmful social media can be and that she wants her Instagram to be a “pleasant place.” She did, however, clarify that she had opted to “no longer post personal stuff.”

Brown has already spoken about the s*xualization and insults she has received. She made a post when she was 16 about how the “past few years haven’t been easy” and how she’s dealt with “pain and insecurities” during her journey to prominence.

Brown’s next appearance will be in “Stranger Things: Season 4 Vol. 1,” which will be released on May 27. On Tuesday, the official trailer was revealed. She also has a role in “Enola Holmes 2,” which will be released later this year.
