In the sequel, Xochitl Gomez will play the role, making her Marvel premiere as a hero who can open gateways into the Multiverse.
On February 14, 2022, the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was unveiled. The specifics of Chavez’s position in the film are still unknown, however official marketing video may have thrown little light on the matter.
Initially, the teaser clip depicted Chavez being pursued by Gargantos for unspecified reasons, however, the attack was foiled by both Strange and Wong. In the main trailer, the young hero is seen traveling through alternate realms with Strange, implying that perhaps a team-up with the sorcerer will occur at some point in the sequel, and giving hints of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s events, in which Doctor Strange opened the multiverse as well as later leads to its collapse.

America Chavez is one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful characters, and she’ll be making her MCU debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s unclear exactly what role America serves in Multiverse of Madness, although her multiversal abilities appear to be the most plausible link.
So, who exactly is Marvel Comics’ America Chavez, & where does her specific link to the Marvel Multiverse originate from?
America Chavez was first established in Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta’s 2011 miniseries Vengeance under the superhero moniker Miss America, which was initially the identity of a Golden Age Marvel Comics hero. She was a member of a covert superhero squad committed to keeping a balance of chaos and order, and she possessed superhuman strength, speed, and flight.
Soon after her debut, America – now known simply as America Chavez – joins the Young Avengers when they reassemble regarding the events of The Children’s Crusade, wherein they discovered and freed the Scarlet Witch from Doctor Doom’s scheme to corrupt reality.
The Utopian Parallel was invaded while America had been six years old, and America’s moms sacrificed themselves to resist the menace. America took some of the Demiurge’s mystical essence and was transported to the Marvel Multiverse, wherein she finally found her path to Earth and became a hero.
America has the capacity to open portals to any planet in the Multiverse due to its multiversal existence and the Demiurge’s mystical essence. America’s origins were recently retconned in a narrative called America Chavez: Made in the USA, which revealed her moms were really doctors seeking to cure a mystery ailment known as ‘Edges Syndrome,’ which afflicts America.
The so-called Utopian Mirror is really a unique medical center where America is researched, culminating in the formation of her powers, as per this retcon of her origin, which leaves some big unresolved issues about how it matches up with known continuity.
These modifications haven’t really been acknowledged since the series finale in August, so it’s unclear when or if they’ll pan out in future America Chavez appearances.
America Chavez in The MCU
This brings us to one of the most significant potential consequences for America Chavez’s destiny in the MCU: the founding of the New Avengers, with America as a member. America Chavez also plays several crucial roles in the MCU. She’s a physically and magical force to be reckoned with, and a possible Thor-level superhero for the Young Avengers.
America Chavez, as one of Marvel’s rare LGBTQ lead characters (and the only lesbian Latina character ever to headline a Marvel comic), is well placed to bring far more representation and freshness to the MCU, something Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been extremely outspoken about increasing.
Taking all of this into account, America Chavez may be the ideal personality to lead the MCU into a process that appears to be dominated by the Multiverse and the strength of magic – particularly one that relies on the Young Avengers, as tends to be the case provided Marvel’s latest batch of Disney Plus video content series and the forthcoming Doctor Strange inside the Multiverse of Madness.
There’s a great deal of evidence that the Young Avengers are finding their way to the MCU in a form similar to their initial comic book iteration.
