The second part of the eleventh cum final season of ‘The Walking Dead’ is going to stream on February 20, 2022, concluding the long and very much popular post-apocalyptic horror TV Series and with that arousing our zombie fever once more.

The series is based on the comic book series of Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard’s The Walking Dead’.

The series is set in a world after a zombie apocalypse that is now inhabited by zombies and some human survivors. The focused survivors of the plot struggle to dodge the zombie attacks. They also come across other human survivors who have formed groups and communities among them. As civilization collapses, the survivors get into violent conflict among themselves.

The ensemble cast of ‘The Walking Dead’ includes Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, etc. The series has been nominated for a number of awards.

‘The Walking Dead’ arrived on October 31, 2010. After entertaining us for nearly twelve years with the exciting theme of zombie horror, the series is, at last, leaving us, but the post-apocalyptic type is not. And not only TV Series like ‘The Walking Dead’ and the new ‘All of Us Are Dead‘, but there is also a number of movies that share the same theme of post-apocalyptic horror. 28 Days Later (2002)-

Danna Boyle directed and Andrew Macdonald produced this British post-apocalyptic horror drama. The movie is about the pandemic of a rage-inducing virus and the breakdown of society following that. The main protagonist of the movie is Jim who wakes at a hospital from coma twenty-eight days after the initial outbreak of the ‘Rage Virus’.

The source of the virus has been an infected chimpanzee. Though Jim becomes infected, Selena and Mark- two survivors rescue them. But when Mark is bitten he begins to turn which forces Selena to kill him. Jim and Selena them try to escape from more attacks and meet other survivors in the meantime.

Cillian Murphy, famed as Thomas Shelby in ‘Peaky Blinders’ plays the role of Jim with Naomie Harris as Selena. The series won a number of awards and became subject to critical acclamation.

Shaun of the Dead (2004)-

Edgar Wright directed ‘Shaun of the Dead’ is a zombie comedy movie, written by Simon Pegg who also stars as the titular Shaun. The film centers Shaun and his friend Ed who become trapped in a zombie apocalypse and take refuge inside a pub with their close ones.

The plot also shows the personal struggle of Shaun who is a salesman lost in life and is disrespected by his colleagues along with sharing a rift with his stepfather.

With Simon Pegg, Nick Frost act as Ed. Other cast members include Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Dylan Moran, Penelope Wilton, etc.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg won 2004 the British Independent Film Awards under the category of the best screenplay for this film. The film also won an Empire Awards and a Saturn Awards for best British film and best horror film respectively.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)-

‘Dawn of the Dead’ was released two weeks before the release of ‘Shaun of the Dead. The movie is Zack Snyder’s directorial debut and the remake of George A. Romero’s 1978 horror film of the same name.

The series opens as Ana Clark, a nurse and her husband Luis misses a night news bulletin. In the morning Vivian from their neighborhood bites Luis who becomes a zombie and attacks Ana in turn. After escaping from him Ana joins the other survivors of the zombie attack.

Sarah Polley plays the role of Ana Clark. The other cast members include Ving Rhames, Jake Weber, Mekhi Phifer, Ty Burrell, etc. The film received a Golden Trailer Award under the category of a best horror film.

Train to Busan (2016)-

One of the most celebrated zombie apocalypse movies ‘Train to Busan‘ is directed by Yeon Sang-ho. The movie is so popular in this particular genre that in the recent Netflix hit ‘All of Us Are Dead‘, the survivors refer to the movie and take lessons from it.

The plot is mostly set in a high-speed train that is going from Seoul to Busan. A zombie apocalypse breaks out and threatens the passengers inside the train. The source of this breakout is a chemical leak at a biotechnology plant.

The train becomes a zombie hell because of an infected woman who climbs the train just the moment before the door closes.

The cast members of ‘Train to Busan’ include Gong Yoo, Kim Su-an, Ma Dong-seok, Jung Yu-mi, etc. The film received a number of awards and nominations.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)-

This American independent horror film is a black and white one which makes the tone of the movie a gloomier one. Set in the legendary gothic setting of Pennsylvania, the plot centers on seven people who become trapped in a rural farmhouse under constant attack from cannibalistic and undead ghouls.

The cast of the movie includes Duane Jones, Judith O’Dea, Karl Hardman, etc.
