Cheslie Kryst, Miss USA 2019, Dead at 30, She Was Lawyer & an Activist,

Cheslie Kryst, a beauty pageant winner, TV correspondent, and campaigner, has died. At the time, she was 30 years old. On Sunday, the New York Police Department confirmed Kryst’s death to ET, saying, “The NYPD responded to a 911 call at 350 West 42nd Street at 7:13 a.m. today.

When they arrived, they discovered a 30-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive on the ground. When EMS arrived, the woman was pronounced dead on the spot.”

Kryst was identified by the NYPD, who reported that “preliminary inquiry reveals that the woman leaped from a high story in the building.”

Kryst died after falling from the 29th story terrace of her New York City apartment building, according to the New York Post, which was the first to report the tragedy. Kryst was said to have lived on the building’s 9th floor.

Kryst’s family issued a statement to Extra, where he worked as a correspondent, in which they said, “We mourn the loss of our darling Cheslie with profound sadness and grief. Her magnificent light, with its beauty and strength, inspired others all around the world.”

Cheslie represented love and served others in many ways, including as a social justice attorney, Miss USA, and a host on ‘Extra.’ But most significantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor, and co-worker, she embodied love and served others “the statement went on to say “We’re confident that her legacy will go on.”

Kryst reportedly left a statement claiming that she intended to leave her belongings to her mother, according to TMZ.

Kryst was born in Jackson, Michigan, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with honors. She went on to get degrees from Wake Forest University’s School of Law and Darla Moore School of Business.

She was named Miss USA in 2019 and utilized her platform as the winner to speak out on social justice problems and raise awareness for causes she cared about. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding her deadly fall.
