Comic Book Adaptions Releasing on Netflix in 2022: Comic book adaptations are without any doubt one of the most popular types of tv shows today, especially for young adults.
When it comes to superhero series, they automatically turn to Netflix. But did you know that only DC and Marvel are not single-handed contributors to this genre? There is more than one library that helps Netflix to launch their own comic book adaptations too- like Boom!, Dark Horse, Millarworld, Image Comics, etc.
Netflix and Boom! studios have been collaborating since 2019 though their official deal was signed in April 2020. Till now no projects have been released, but six exciting adaptations are on the way.
A live-action and anime project which will be voiced and starred by Keanu Reeves.
Game of Thrones famed Peter Dinklage (for playing Tyrion) is connected with this sci-fi adaptation. It’s directed by 6th and Idaho Productions, a production house that is also producing the 2022 Batman.
Again an animated series! It is coming from Polygon Pictures and is set to release in 2023.
As the name hints, it’s going to be a horror series. And Mike Flanagan from ‘Midnight Mass’ and the top-ranking Netflix horror series ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ is going to star here.
It was first announced long back in 2019. David F. Sandberg is directing this adaptation.
Based on the graphic novel of Alexis Nolent, this film is going to be directed by David Fincher. Tida Swinton and Michael Fassbender will be seen to star in the film.
The extremely popular superhero series ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is a result of Dark House’s collaboration with Netflix. It signed an agreement with the streaming platform in 2019 and is on its way to delivering a number of comic book adaptations.
‘The Umbrella Academy’ began with a group of people adopted by a billionaire and trained in adopting superhero power reunite after their father’s death. Season 3 is now confirmed to arrive in 2022 and is said to introduce the Sparrows.
Based on the comic of Matt Wagner this tv series is being directed by Andrew Dabb.
Though the filming of the movie hasn’t started yet, Alice Waddington is to be direct it that’s for sure. It’ll tell the story of a daughter journeying to a deep-sea facility in search of her father.
A highly trained killer beneath the mask of a 1950 housewife is the central theme of this movie. Blake Lively is believed to be related to the film.
A new animated series about a great warrior rabbit produced by Gaumont and 88 Pictures.
Produced and starred by Tiffany Haddish, this mystery drama is about a woman called Trine who has lost her memory.
In 2017, Netflix got back the deal with Millarworld of Scottish comic writer Mark Millar. Millarworld is now entitled to stream its major projects on the platform. Until now only two of its projects have been released here- ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ and ‘Super Crooks’ anime series. Following are the upcoming projects in the collaboration of Netflix and Millarworld.
This previously mentioned anime series is going to have a live-action adaptation in the hand of Millarworld.
A multilingual series about Christ’s return to the earth. Assumably this series is already filmed.
Inclined to the style of ‘Harry Potter’, the series is back in being filmed though development was postponed in 2020. Besides these three projects, there are some others on the queue whose names have been announced without much information yet.
These include ‘Huck’, ‘Night Club’, ‘Empress’, ‘King of Spies’, ‘Prodigy’, ‘Reborn’, ‘Sharkey The Bounty Hunter’, ‘Space Bandits’.
Along with being involved with many of the Millarworld projects, ‘Image Comics’ is also listed as a production company for Netflix. The following are enlisted upcoming projects to stream on the platform.
Scott Snyder and Tony S. Daniel’s comic is being adapted as TV series on Netflix by Image Comics.
Set to be adapted as an animated series, ‘Image Comics’ published issues 21 through 27. It is originally self-published by Jeff Smith.
This is a sequel of the 2021 Charlize Theron superhero movie which is on the way to being released on Netflix in a near future.
Back to the wonderland of comic books. But recently Netflix has begun to stream a much more reduced number of DC comic adaptations than before as DC is now a subsidiary of Warner Brothers and much of their projects are now licensed to HBO Max. Still, there are a few DC comic adaptations that are going to be streamed on Netflix.
After being a fan favorite in 2021, ‘Sweet Tooth is set to release its sequel in 2022 on Netflix.
Last but not the least, the highly anticipated and much waited Neil Gaiman comic book is adapted to arrive in 2022.
Some other Comic Book Adaptations are coming on Netflix too like ‘Asterix’, ‘Button Man: The Killing Game’, ‘The Archies’, ‘Ball and Chain’, ‘Raising Dion Season 2’, ‘The Hated’.
