Sandman Star Hints Netflix Show May Last 5-7 Seasons

Published by

Sandman Updates: The Sandman could run through several seasons for five to seven years, actor Boyd Holbrook points out. In his attempt to repair his fallen empire after his 70-year incarceration by humans, The Sandman follows Dream the Infinite in an adaptation of the iconic comic series from DC Comics and Vertigo.

Including Tom Sturridge as Fantasy, Gwendoline Christie taking on the part of Lucifer, and Boyd Holbrook as the nightmare Corinthian, the cast for the show was recently announced.

Attempts to adapt The Sandman have been going on for years, with the prototype working since the 1990s in production hell. A film adaptation directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt for New Line Cinema almost materialized around 2013, but the film stalled in 2016.

The idea ultimately morphed into a series with a first season episode count consisting of eleven episodes created for Netflix. Alongside David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) and Allan Heinberg, comic writer Neil Gaiman is signed as an executive producer (Wonder Woman). Heinberg, who was previously the showrunner for The Runaways, is the series’ lead showrunner.

Sandman: About an interview:

Boyd Holbrook stated in an interview with Collider that he had signed a long-term deal for five to seven years for the series. While the actor is unclear how long the show will run, his remarks indicate that Netflix may have long-term ambitions for the show.

A high episode count is required to remain faithful to the story, considering the number of difficulties in the comic. Although the contract can be signed for five to seven years by the actors, that does not equate to the number of seasons that the series can get.

Before finishing it, Netflix appears to retain a program for either two or three seasons, with a few significant exceptions. Since Netflix series may not necessarily debut a year apart, as shown on a typical network do, the years between series can also be a consideration in the long-term framework for the contracts.

The second season of Stranger Things premiered in 2017, while the third season began in 2019, and the second season of The Witcher is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2021, about two years after its first season’s December 2019 premiere.
