Snowpiercer Season 3 (Story Line)

NME

The show is the third season, and so the storyline remains the same, as of Bonj Joon Ho’s 2013 movie. The story has been adapted from Jacques Lob’s graphic novel, which shows how the last group of humans, who have survived somehow after the earth got frozen, takes shelter in a train that is perpetually moving. The third season has picked the story from the same point left in the second season. Climate change will be the main plot for the third part, as shown at the end of season II.

As we know from last season, the train passengers have been divided into two groups after the poor passengers have raised their voice under Lyton and Mr. Wilford has injected the fuel.  Despite the effort of Lyton, he could not manage, and Mr. Wilford regains his power on the train.

On the other hand, Melanie has discoveries in her research. She found that the earth was warming up, which gave her hope that life could exist on the planet.  Melanie leaves the train to check her research’s reality and goes out in the freezing world to establish the truth.

Season 3 continues from the same frame; the movie has left in season II, in which Lyton is trying to take over the train from Mr. Wilford. The season ended with the death of Melanie, but in season 3, the director has decided to make the fans happy by bringing her back.

Retcon Melanie’s Death

TVLine

The trailer of season III has confirmed that Melanie Cavil (Jennifer Connelly) is there in the show, which means the loss of Melanie in the season has been retconned.

As per the season II plot, a group of pirates led by Daveed Diggs and Rowan Blanchard, who played the role of Melanie’s daughter, when they came to know that the earth was getting warmer, they searched for Melanie. Still, before they could ask anything, Melanie left the train to prove her research right of life existing frozen on earth, which was her end in season II.

As the lead role, Jenifer Connelly was undoubtedly coming back in season III as she was one the most beloved character of the show. But the mystery remains of how the show has revised her return in Season III, which will be cleared only after the show’s release.

Connelly has joined the show during season II with a few occasional scenes. Still, her outstanding performance in episode 6 of season II which was wholly based on Connelly, stole the hearts of the fans. Her death in season II was a big blow for the viewers, but her return in season III has made the fans happy.

Snowpiercer Season 3: Why Layton Searches for Melanie?

Signal Horizon

The first look of the trailer shows how Layton (Diggs), leading the pirate’s ten cars, searches for Melanie, who had the information about earth getting warmer at some part which indicates that life can exist even on land. Other actors shown in the trailer are  Jennifer Connelly and Sean Bean.

The show starts from the same point from where it has left in season II; that is how Layton and Ruth have led their supporters after separating the train from 1023 cars. Season III’s first scene starts with Layton leading his troop to search for Melanie, who he believes is dead. On the other hand, Mr. Wilford is worried for Lyton and waiting desperately for him.

The story also reveals some new faces, Lyton encounters to find Melanie. Some of the new faces of season three are  Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall,  Sam Otto, Mickey Sumner, Rowan Blanchard, and others.

Why is Jennifer Connelly Leaving the Snowpiercer Season 3?

CinemaBlend

Soon after the end of Season II, in which Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) was dead after she left the train and went out in the frozen world, there were rumors that Jennifer was leaving the show, the fans were also disappointed as she was holding a stronger bond with the viewers. The urge of the viewers for the third season and their love for Jennifer forced the Producer Becky Clements to reveal that she is not leaving the show and she will be returning with more significant changes. The viewers hope her return to be a game-changer for the show.

There are also assumptions that Jennifer’s return may not be the return of Melanie as Producer Becky Clements in an interview, had mentioned that maybe her return would not be the same as Melanie in season III.

At the end of season II, Alex, daughter of Melanie, who is in support of Lyton, reaches the research station of her mother. Alex could not find her moth, but the proofs she gathered cleared her mother’s researcher. She found a notebook with her articulations of the earth getting warmer. She also found a letter in her name in which she had mentioned that she was; leaving her research station and going on frozen ground to prove her research.

The last episode also clears that Melanie was dead because the survival of any human being in the field was impossible.  But the TV shows always have a space where they play their part in twisting the audience.

Moreover, after the producers’ interview, the fans assume that Melanie has been saved by some groups that somehow exist on earth. The survivors have brought her back on the train. Another assumption, too, is being circulated among the viewers that Melanie would be dead but will continue playing her part in the show’s flashbacks, which will highlight her struggle on the frozen earth, her efforts to survive, and all.
