Their relationship was confirmed shortly after the release of  Senorita, with some questioning whether love was an advertising stunt. When approached by the paparazzi at the LAX airport, Shawn responded by saying,  We’re definitely not an advertising stunt.  The relationship then grew stronger, with Shawn claiming to have helped his girlfriend become more outspoken and vulnerable.

When promoting his fourth studio album Wonder in 2020, he told Radio.com about the relationship:  I thought I was a very open, passionate guy until I started engaging in a relationship with someone I really, truly love and feel. ‘Oh no, I really have such a big ego, I do not want to show her that I hurt, I do not want to show her that it hurts me, and I want to be male, and I want to be strong in this relationship.

Instead, the musician finds his initial thought to be hurting our relationship,  and it is difficult to learn that real strength lies in being emotionally vulnerable. In an interview with Bustle in August, Camila said there was a lot of sweetness and tenderness in the relationship.  I may have a foster attitude because I like being raised. I’m lucky my partner is the same way,  he said.  I think we’re both sensitive. I’m really lucky to be surrounded by gentle people; this is very important to me.
