Meghan Markle Admits She and Prince Harry Were “Overwhelmed” Following Lili’s Birth

Meghan Markle Updates: Meghan Markle, 40, is opening up about her and her husband, Prince Harry, 37,’s life since the birth of their second child, Lili, in June. The Duchess of Sussex wrote an open letter to U.S. Congress about paid family leave, admitting that despite the joy her new baby has brought her and her family, it’s not always easy.

“We were overjoyed, as any parent would be. We were overwhelmed, as many parents are.”

In the letter, the former Suits star described her life as a mom with her son Archie, 2, and now four-month-old Lili, after previously saying that having “two is definitely a juggle” at the 2021 Well Child Awards in July.

She emphasized the importance of earning a living and raising children, and she believes that parents should not have to choose between the two.

“When you care for your child, you care for your community, and you care for your country — because when paid leave has become a right, we’re laying the groundwork for better mental health outcomes, lower health-care costs, and greater economic strength.”

Paid Leave for All, the national campaign of organizations fighting for paid family and medical leave in the United States, shared Meghan’s open letter on their website.

Paid family leave is one of President Joe Biden‘s administration’s cornerstones, but it is in danger of being removed from the social safety net bill Democrats are currently attempting to pass.

Meghan’s letter was addressed to political heavyweights such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and it explained why she believes paid family leave is worth fighting for.

“Paid leave should be a national right, not a patchwork option available only to those whose employers have policies in place or who live in one of the few states with a leave program,” she explained.
