Kevin Feige claims that Marvel creates films specifically for crowded theatres.

Kevin Feige Updates: “We make every decision as though we were sitting in a packed theatre.” Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has reaffirmed his commitment to offering the theatrical experience.

During a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated that every Marvel film is created with a theatre audience in mind. He described how those working on the films incorporate key moments into their storylines, knowing that they will elicit a variety of reactions from those seated inside a crowded theatre watching a movie on the big screen together.

“[Every] time we make a film, we expect it to deliver on a promise of an experience, to be shared in a theatre,” Feige told the site. “And seeing where people laugh, or where people grow extremely quiet and silent, or where people cheer if we’re lucky, in the movie…

“We spend years and years trying to work up to those moments, and there’s nothing better than being in a theatre and watching it and seeing it happen,” he added, acknowledging the pay-off of experiencing an audience’s reaction. “Every decision we make is based on sitting in a crowded theatre and experiencing the story.”

What Kevin Feige Shared About Black Widow?

IGN

Black Widow, the first film in the MCU’s Phase 4, is the most recent Marvel production to hit theatres. It had the biggest opening weekend in the United States since the COVID-19 pandemic began, grossing more than $215 million worldwide. The film also grossed more than $60 million on Disney+ with Premier Access, demonstrating that the two can coexist and be successful.

The film benefited from “a post-Endgame era that has unshackled the Marvel Cinematic Universe from its own precise format,” according to IGN’s review of Black Widow, though we felt it sometimes struggled to “strike a balance between action and family drama” and, ultimately, it didn’t turn out to be “the stellar solo film the fallen Avenger deserves.”

Aside from Black Widow, there’s a slew of Phase 4 films on the way. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will follow in September, followed by Eternals in November and Spider-Man: No Way Home in December. Following that, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released as the first Marvel film of 2022.
