Kevin Feige Says Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds Is A Force Of Nature

Published by

Kevin Feige: Robert Downey Jr. was the face of the franchise for the first ten years of MCU (sorry Chris Evans, but it’s true). Through Tony Stark in Iron Man, we got our introduction to this world and his valiant sacrifice closed out the Infinity Saga in Avengers: Endgame.

Since then, it’s seemed like another famous poster boy should be used for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We do have Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, and so on, of course, but they just don’t sound like frontmen. However, as Ryan Reynolds is now set to make his MCU debut in Deadpool 3, it may all change soon.

In a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige opened up about the threequel after a long time of silence and stated that the Merc with the Mouth is currently making the jump to the franchise as the only fugitive from Fox’s X-Men pics, that the film will be rated R, and that it will not be filmed in 2021.

Kevin Feige Praised Deadpool

But Feige, too, heaped praise on Reynolds and Deadpool, saying that for the shared world he would reflect something really different.

“We’ve got a lot of items we’ve already announced we’ve got to do right now, so it’s great to have started. Again, in the MCU, a very different kind of character, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is so terrific to see him carry the character to life.”

At the moment, this ‘force of nature’ is in high demand. With The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard arriving on August 20th and Netflix Original Red Note landing in mid-2021, Free Guy is coming on May 21st.

He’s also got another Netflix pic, The Adam Project, created by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Daily Parenting Tips on the way, a long-in-development reboot of Clue, and a new twist on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

We know, above all that, that Wade Wilson is very close to the heart of Reynolds, and he’s definitely working on the screenplay as all the other movies come together.

Judging by Feige’s remarks, however, before early to mid-2022, the threequel will not fire, meaning it will possibly arrive sometime in 2023.

That’s a long wait, but with Doctor Strange set to grapple with all manner of cross-dimensional shenanigans in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man 3, there’s a possibility we might see the Merc cameo in the MCU before the debut of Deadpool 3.
